And Life Goes On.

I believe this is one of the best photographs that I have clicked. It has nothing to do with the lighting, or with the composition or anything of the sorts, but has everything to do with the moment it was taken at.

It was almost sunrise, when i walked out of my quarters at the Hornbill House, in Cat Tien ranger station, waiting for mumma to get ready so we could begin our birding session for the day. The Gibbons were howling and screaming right behind our rooms and the weather was a bit cloudy.

Like all the birders, I couldn't keep myself to just sit down and wait, instead I chose to just let my eye wonder, to see what's fluttering in the vicinity. Far away, i could see a racket tail, now, for people who have been to CatTien, it's like Thattekad, racket tails are in abundance and you quickly learn to ignore them.

However, as it happened so, just as when my eyes landed on the guy, it flicked its head in the air, and almost something like a white powder whipped away from it. The drongo was under a bamboo and the light wasn't enough, plus there was a good amount of distance between us. I had to check what it was, so i raised my camera, and fired a couple shots, and as luck may have it, the moth had some more scales to give. Which is exactly what the white powder was. The scales of the month, flying away as the drongo je**ed it's prey to a crushing kill.

It was almost poetic, as if, the scales were the soul of the moth and it left it's physical being to move on. Moving on to another life, to another cycle in this natural world.

Rare Encounters

A female Germain's Peacock-Pheasant, walked out of the shadows of the dense woods of on a hot afternoon. .wildlife and I were waiting for about an hour or so in a hide waiting for the pair to show up. The male being super cautious was extremely shy and chose to stay behind a dense bush, giving out a call or two at intervals, making sure we are aware of his presence. The female on the other hand was generous enough to put on a good show for us, while the sun barely reached the forest floor through the thick deciduous canopy above.

Black Shanked Duoc Langur.

I was extremely happy with how this turned out. The light, the angle, the timing was just perfect. This species of langurs are a bit timid and skittish. They tend to move up to the higher canopies if humans are around, so to get an individual to look back at you, exactly at eye level, with the evening sun just above the horizon, everything just fell into place.

Cuckoo Paradise.

A beautiful male Violet Cuckoo, just hanging out and chilling on a fantastic morning. Ma and i were out looking for broadbilla when we happened upon this one. Unfortunately the light wasn't favourable...it generally isn't in my case whenever i have stumbled upon lifers like this one. I did however manage to get some beautiful shots of the female..will be posting them soon enough.
