The second khaen player I met in Vientiane also showed me his attractive performance.

Although his khaen career is about 10 years, not so long, the Covid Pandemic gave him a bunch of time to practice Khaen intensively and now he is able to perform various playing styles from different provinces of Laos.

Since he is a fan of guitar music as well, he has been trying to make "Chord" sound by his khaen and it fascinated other khaen players.

He runs his own YouTube channel with his plan to upload more videos

Visiting Laos for the first time gave me a plenty of new knowledge on Khaen. This young player, Sin, demonstrated a difference in its playing style by region.
In Laos, all regions have different tunes, melodies, and rhythms for khaen. The Northern regions have more melodic styles, whereas the Southern regions have more rhythmic styles. Listening to his play, it was astonishing that the Southern playing style is not far different from Isan of Thailand.
He also explained the history of Laos and its music briefly. As the Laos court music adapted a lot from the Khmer Empire, it still remains in some loanwords such as "Mahori". Following this emerging period, court musicians of Lan Xan kingdom attempted to characterize their music by adding Khaen.
Apart from the past, Sin is now trying to perform khaen with chromatic keys specially made by a craftsman from the North region.
