THE HAIRS OF THREE MALE CUSTOMERS

EPISODE 5 (FINAL)

My hands refused to stay still. Standing behind my father with the clipper in my hand felt heavier than anything I had ever carried in my life. He sat there calmly, relaxed, completely unaware of the battle raging inside me. Every second felt longer than the last.
“Why are you sweating?” he asked, glancing at me through the mirror.
“Nothing, Papa…” I replied quickly, but even my own voice sounded unfamiliar to me.
At that moment, something inside me shifted.
All the promises Baba made… all the thoughts of wealth, respect, and a better life… suddenly felt different. For the first time, I asked myself a question I had been avoiding all along, at what cost?
I looked at my father again. His face was calm, trusting. This was a man who had stood by me when I had nothing. A man who still believed in me when I had already given up on myself.
And now… I was about to betray that trust.
Slowly, my grip on the clipper loosened.
“I can’t do it,” I said quietly.
My father turned slightly, confused. “Do what?”
I shook my head, trying to steady myself. “Nothing… I just can’t.”
I stepped back, my heart pounding, but at the same time, I felt something else, something I hadn’t felt in a long time.
Relief.
That night, I returned to Baba’s place empty-handed.
The moment he saw me, his expression changed. The calmness was gone.
“You failed,” he said coldly.
“I chose peace,” I replied, even though my voice was not as strong as I wanted it to be.
He let out a dry laugh. “Then remain poor forever,” he said, turning away from me as if I no longer mattered.
Maybe he was right.
Maybe I had just walked away from the only opportunity I would ever have.
But as I stepped out and began the journey back home, something inside me felt lighter. The burden I had been carrying for days disappeared. For the first time in a long while, I could breathe freely.
Days passed… then weeks.
Nothing magical happened. No sudden wealth. No miracle money.
But something changed.
Gradually, customers began to increase. One person would come and recommend another. People started noticing my work. My small shop slowly became busier than before.
One afternoon, Reuben walked in again, smiling as usual.
“Michael, your shop don dey blow o!” he said, looking around.
I smiled quietly.
This time, it wasn’t forced.
I finally understood something important.
Not every shortcut leads to success.
And not every opportunity is worth taking.
Sometimes, the real wealth…
Is not losing yourself in the process.

THE END.

THE HAIRS OF THREE MALE CUSTOMERS

EPISODE 4

I didn’t sleep that night. No matter how I tried to close my eyes, Baba’s words kept echoing in my head—“the one closest to your heart.” It wasn’t something I needed to think twice about. I already knew who that person was.
My father.
The only man who never gave up on me, even when I had nothing to show for my life. The only one who still called me “my son” with pride, even when others saw me as a failure. He had always believed I would become something better, even when I didn’t believe in myself.
“No… I can’t,” I whispered into the darkness.
But almost immediately, another thought pushed its way in.
“Do you want to remain poor?”
I sat up on my bed, sweating. My chest felt tight, my mind restless. I was caught between two worlds—the one I came from, and the one I was desperately trying to enter. Wealth was close. Closer than it had ever been. All I needed was one more step.
Just one.
Morning came faster than I expected, but it didn’t bring any peace. I opened my shop, hoping to distract myself, but my thoughts refused to settle. I kept replaying everything in my head—Baba’s voice, the promise of wealth, the warning about the third person.
Then, as if the universe was aligning everything to test me, my father walked into the shop.
“Michael,” he called gently, “help me trim my hair.”
My heart stopped.
I stared at him for a moment, unable to respond. He looked the same as always—calm, simple, trusting. Nothing about him suggested that anything was wrong. To him, it was just another normal visit to his son’s shop.
But to me…
This was something else entirely.
“Papa… later,” I said, forcing the words out of my mouth.
He smiled and shook his head lightly. “I will wait,” he replied, settling down comfortably on the chair as if he had all the time in the world.
That was when it hit me.
This was not a coincidence.
This was the test.
I picked up the cloth slowly and draped it over him. My hands were shaking again, worse than before. My father sat there peacefully, unaware of the storm inside me. He trusted me completely. That trust felt heavier than anything I had ever carried.
As I stood behind him, clipper in hand, I looked at his reflection in the mirror.
And for the first time since this whole thing began…
I felt afraid.
Not of Baba.
Not of poverty.
But of myself.

THE HAIRS OF THREE MALE CUSTOMERS

EPISODE 3

The next day felt different the moment I opened my shop. Everything looked the same, the chair, the mirror, the clippers but my mind was no longer the same. Customers came in as usual, greeting me, sitting down, talking freely… but this time, I wasn’t seeing them as just customers anymore. I was studying them, weighing them, asking myself one question over and over again: who next?
Every man that walked into my shop suddenly became a possibility.
Then, sometime in the afternoon, he walked in, a man I had never seen before. He looked decent, well-dressed, calm. No familiarity, no emotional attachment. Just a stranger.
“Barb for me,” he said simply.
I nodded immediately. This one felt easier. No guilt. No connection. No memories attached. Just business.
As he sat down, I felt a strange sense of relief. This was the kind of person I needed. Someone I could deal with without thinking too much.
I covered him with the cloth and began working. The clipper moved smoothly across his head, and for the first time since this whole thing started, my hands were steady. My mind was clear. This one would be easy.
But halfway through the haircut, something unexpected happened.
The man looked at me through the mirror, his eyes meeting mine directly.
“Do you believe in consequences?” he asked suddenly.
My hand paused slightly.
I tried to brush it off. “Why you ask?” I replied, forcing a light tone.
He smiled faintly. “Just asking,” he said.
But something about the way he said it didn’t sit well with me. It felt like more than just a casual question. For a moment, a strange uneasiness crept into me, but I pushed it aside.
I continued the haircut.
When I finished, I quietly gathered some strands of his hair, just like I did before, and kept them aside carefully.
Second one.
Done.
He paid without saying much and walked out.
But as he left, I couldn’t shake off that question.
Do you believe in consequences?
That night, I went back to Baba.
The moment I handed over the second hair, he looked satisfied. There was a kind of approval in his eyes that made me feel like I was getting closer to something big.
“Good,” he said slowly.
Then his expression changed.
“Now… the last one.”
I swallowed.
“Who?” I asked.
He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he looked straight into my eyes, as if searching for something deep inside me.
Then he spoke.
“The one closest to your heart.”
For a moment, everything inside me went silent.
My breath slowed.
My thoughts froze.
Because instantly…
I knew exactly who he was talking about.

THE HAIRS OF THREE MALE CUSTOMERS

EPISODE 2

I forced a smile the moment I saw him. “Ah, Reuben… you don come early today,” I said, trying to sound normal. But inside me, something had already started shaking. Out of everyone in this town… why him? Of all people, why did it have to be someone who trusted me so much?
I remembered Baba’s warning clearly: “Make sure they are people that trust you.” That line echoed louder now than before.
Reuben sat comfortably on the chair like he always did, relaxed, free, completely unaware of the battle going on inside my head. “Make it sharp, I’m rushing somewhere,” he said. I nodded and picked up the cloth to cover him, but my hands were not steady. I tried to control it, but the tension was obvious.
“What’s wrong with you?” he asked, noticing my uneasiness.
“Nothing… I didn’t sleep well,” I replied quickly, avoiding his eyes.
I picked up the clipper and placed it on his head. The moment it touched his hair, something strange happened. For a split second, I heard a whisper—soft, but clear enough to freeze me.
“Do it…”
I paused immediately.
“Guy, why you stop?” Reuben asked, turning slightly.
“I’m coming,” I muttered, trying to shake it off.
I continued cutting his hair, but this time, it didn’t feel like a normal haircut anymore. Every movement of the clipper felt heavier. My mind kept drifting back to Baba’s words, to the promise of wealth, to the life I had always dreamed of escaping.
When I finished, I carefully gathered some strands of his hair and wrapped them separately without him noticing. My heart was beating fast, louder than the sound of the clipper itself.
“Hope say this cut clean?” he asked, standing up and adjusting himself.
“Clean die,” I replied, forcing a small smile.
He paid, said a few jokes as usual, and walked out of the shop like nothing had happened.
But the moment he stepped outside, something changed.
A sudden cold breeze swept through the shop, even though the door was barely open. I stood there, staring at the small wrap in my hand. For the first time, it didn’t feel like ordinary hair anymore. It felt… different. Heavy.
That night, I returned to Baba.
The moment he saw me, a faint smile appeared on his face. “You have started,” he said calmly.
I handed over the hair, and he collected it carefully, whispering words I couldn’t understand. The atmosphere around him felt strange, thicker than before.
Then he looked at me and said, “Two more.”
I nodded slowly, but as I turned to leave, he added something that made my heart sink.
“Be careful, Michael… the third one will test your soul.”
I paused for a moment, confused. I didn’t fully understand what he meant.
But deep down…
Something told me this was not going to be as easy as I thought.

THE HAIRS OF THREE MALE CUSTOMERS

EPISODE 1

“If you bring me the hair of three male customers from your barbing salon for sacrifice, then I will make you the richest barber in this community.” The short old man said it so calmly, as if he was talking about something ordinary. But the moment those words entered my ears, everything inside me stood still.
“Baba… you said what?” I asked, my lips slightly trembling between shock and excitement. “You mean if I do that, I will become rich? Me? Someone nobody even respects in this town?” The truth was, I had always seen myself as nothing, a struggling young man who had tried everything and failed at almost all.
Before I became a barber, I had done several menial jobs. None of them brought me dignity, and none brought me money. Instead, they left me with regret and embarrassment. One of them was when I worked as a security guard in a small bakery. The salary was so poor that it couldn’t even sustain me for one week. Survival became a daily struggle, and slowly, I found myself doing things I never thought I would do.
Every night after closing, when everyone had gone home, I would quietly sneak into the store room and take bread, sometimes as much as I could carry. I convinced myself it wasn’t stealing; after all, I was only trying to survive. But one night, everything changed. I was inside the store, carefully selecting the biggest loaves, when I suddenly noticed a shadow right in front of me. Fear gripped me instantly.
“Jesus!” I screamed, throwing the bread from my hands. My heart was racing as I looked up, expecting the worst. But it wasn’t a ghost. It was Mr. Samson, the manager’s assistant, standing there and staring directly at me.
“Michael… so this is what you do when we all leave?” he asked quietly. His voice alone sent cold shivers down my spine. I tried to explain, to beg, to blame the devil, but it was useless. That same night, I knew I had lost my job. And just as he promised, the next day, I was handed my sack letter.
That was the moment something changed in me. I made a silent promise to myself, I would never remain poor again. Never.
And now, standing before this strange old man, I felt like I had finally found a way out.
“You must bring the hair of three men in three days,” he repeated firmly.
I smiled without thinking. “Baba, that’s not difficult. I can even bring it today,” I said confidently, not even stopping to consider what I was agreeing to.
But as I turned to leave, he stopped me with a voice that suddenly felt heavier.
“The first man you see after stepping out of this place… is the first one,” he said.
His words followed me like a shadow as I made my way back to my barbing salon. It was still early, and I hurried, not wanting to miss any customers, especially now that I had a mission. When I got to my shop, I had barely started arranging my tools when I heard a familiar voice from behind me.
“Michael! My guy! I want to barb my normal style, I’m rushing somewhere.”
I didn’t even need to turn immediately. I already knew that voice.
But when I did…
My heart skipped.
It was Reuben, my pastor’s son… and someone who trusted me completely.
And just like that, I knew… he was the first.

There are some things many of us heard growing up… but nobody really explained.

You just heard:
“Be careful.”
“Not everything is ordinary.”
“Don’t play with relationships.”

And you moved on with life.

Now you’re older. You’re dating. Some of you are already deep in serious relationships… some even close to marriage.

But let me ask you honestly:

👉 Do you truly understand what Ekpo Nka Owo means?
👉 Do you know when a relationship stops being “just dating”?
👉 Do you know the expectations that come with cultural recognition?

This is not about fear. This is about awareness.

A lot of people enter relationships blindly—no understanding, no guidance… just emotions. And later, when things go wrong, you start hearing:

“Had I known…”

And by then, it’s already too late.

That statement alone has broken many hearts.

This book was written for YOU.

✔️ Whether you are a man or a woman
✔️ Whether you believe in it or not
✔️ Whether you’re single, dating, or already committed

You need to understand what people are talking about.

Because this topic is not just about women. It is not just about men.

It is about responsibility in relationships.

Inside this book, you will discover:
• What Ekpo Nka Owo really means
• When it is believed to apply
• The role of marriage and family involvement
• What people say about loyalty and consequences
• And answers to questions nobody has clearly explained

No fear. No exaggeration. Just clarity.

Before you go deeper into any serious relationship. Before you say “this is my person”. Before you make decisions that tie families together…

Take a moment to understand.

Because sometimes, the difference between peace and regret is simply knowledge.

Don’t wait until you start saying “Had I known…”
