ZAAP - Zanesville Appalachian Arts Project

ZAAP - Zanesville Appalachian Arts Project ZAAP is a non-profit Art Gallery in beautiful Downtown Zanesville! Our History
ZAAP was organized in 1994 in response to a revitalization effort in Zanesville.

Former Mayor Marilyn Swope’s attendance at the Mayor’s Institute on City Design; Midwest, help in St. Louis in 1993, initiated interest in investigating ways in which artistic projects might stimulate the area. In 1994, the decision was made to incorporate as an organization designed for the support of regional arts and the involvement of the community. Meetings
ZAAP Meetings for members and prosp

ective members are on the 4th Thursday each month at 6 pm at the gallery. In November, the meeting is on the 3rd Thursday and in December, a holiday party will be scheduled. Our Mission Statement
The mission of the Zanesville Appalachian Arts Project (ZAAP) is to unite artists and crafts persons and connect them to the community. ZAAP is a not-for-profit organization of artists and art advocates interested in cultivating and supporting the artists and the arts of Southeastern Ohio by offering the opportunity to meet, network, exhibit, and participate in the aesthetic development of their neighborhoods.

⚠️Warning: Long post incoming - but exciting announcements being made!

We want send a HUGE thank you to Muskingum County Community Foundation for being one of our biggest supporters and giving us a grant to re-design and re-imagine the gallery!

Every year MCCF is behind countless nonprofit organizations in Muskingum county being the main reason many of us can put on community events, run day to day, make upgrades, and provide support to those who need our services.

This year we put out a survey to gauge what our members and customers wanted to see the most from us. Our board decided that based on these answers we were in desperate need of a restructuring.

More community involvement, heightened sales, a creative space for members and classes, and overall a more inviting and exciting atmosphere for customers and artists alike.

This year we requested a grant to help us move in the right direction. Our goal is to make art more accessible to our customers and create a space where artists as well as the community want to spend time!

We want the gallery to be a hangout for those in need of creative inspiration as well as a spot that people come from all around to visit!

In order to achieve these goals we are planning a re-design of the space! We will still be providing monthly installations, but on top of that we will start implementing some smaller, more affordable handmade pieces and print displays to make local art more accessible to all demographics!

We will also be designing a new seating area in the gallery so visitors feel comfortable spending time and getting to know the artists hosting the gallery day to day.

That being said, if any artists are interested in displaying small pieces such as textile works, pottery, jewelry, stickers, etc please reach out! We want our shelves to be full of exciting pieces for our visitors to take home!
