A few months ago we spent the day exploring around Ajo, Arizona, cameras in hand and surrounded by some incredible organ pipe cactus. We headed out along those long, empty desert roads with mountains stretching across the horizon, before tackling the long loop road through Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. It’s one of those drives where you start wondering if the road is ever going to end, but with views like these, who cares? Every dusty mile was worth it, especially when we came home with shots like this. This print is now available in our Etsy shop, bringing a little piece of the Arizona desert home with you.

There’s something pretty hard to beat about sitting in Meadview, Arizona with a coffee in hand and watching the desert sky put on its evening show. The Joshua trees turn into silhouettes, the mountains start glowing and suddenly that coffee tastes about ten times better. No traffic, no rushing around, just us, a desert sunset and a cup of caffeine doing its very best to keep us awake long enough to enjoy every last bit of colour. Meadview, you really do sunsets properly.

We took far too many photos of these mailboxes just outside Dolan Springs, Arizona, but apparently there’s no such thing as too many desert mailboxes. Sitting out there surrounded by dusty roads, mountains and absolutely nothing else, they were just too good to drive past. We stopped, wandered around with the cameras and somehow ended up with enough mailbox photos to start our own postal service. So naturally, we had to share a few of our favourites on Instagram.

Only in the desert could a row of mailboxes make us slam on the brakes and grab the camera. Just outside Dolan Springs, Arizona, we found these roadside beauties standing proudly in the middle of nowhere, probably holding a mixture of bills, Amazon parcels and the occasional scorpion. Who needs a famous landmark when you’ve got desert mailboxes, dusty roads and mountains in the background?

There’s something special about sunset in Apache Junction, Arizona, when the desert starts glowing and the saguaro stand tall against a sky full of incredible colour. We could happily watch these giants turn into silhouettes every evening while the Superstition Mountains fade into the distance. It’s one of those desert moments we never get tired of photographing, especially when the sky decides to put on a proper show. This is how we sell property in the desert! Forget shiny glass offices and fancy estate agent windows, in Dolan Springs you get an old western style realtor building with a Joshua tree standing proudly out front. Just needs a rocking chair, a cowboy hat and someone saying “Howdy, looking to buy some dirt?” Dolan Springs rocks!

We found this cactus statue outside the trading post in Dolan Springs, complete with its own collection of jewellery. Clearly even the cactus around here like to accessorise. No spikes to dodge for once, just a very stylish desert character enjoying life in the Arizona sunshine. We couldn’t walk past without getting a photo.

There’s just something about Joshua Tree that keeps pulling us back. Maybe it’s those wonderfully weird Joshua trees standing proudly in the desert, the huge piles of rocks, the endless blue skies or those quiet roads that seem to disappear into nowhere. We love wandering around with our cameras, finding another tree that somehow needs 47 photos, and just enjoying the peace of the desert. It’s one of those places where we’re happiest doing absolutely nothing in particular. We’re already looking forward to our next visit, more exploring, more sunsets and, inevitably, far too many photos of Joshua trees!
