John was synonymous with brilliant set design whether television or live theater. He designed our PETER PAN starring Cathy Rigby which after A&E Television shot and aired it won John an EMMY AWARD! John also designed our National tour of CAMELOT staring Michael York and Lou Diamond Phillips as well as over 25 other first rate sets for McCoy Rigby and La Mirada. He was loved and respected by ALL who worked with and for him. Our last collaboration with John was A FEW GOOD MEN just this last November which was once again, perfectly designed. Cathy and I had John to the house for last Christmas dinner which was a joy and honor for all in attendance. We shared much together especially the highs and lows of this business, but with John, there was always kindness towards all. We love you John. We honor the consummate artist you were. McCOY RIGBY ENTERTAINMENT (Tom McCoy & Cathy Rigby McCoy, Executive Producers) Celebrating its 24th Anniversary season at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, McCoy Rigby Entertainment (MRE), is one of the world's premier theatrical production companies. Headed by Executive Producers Tom McCoy and Cathy Rigby, MRE has produced over ninety Broadway-caliber musicals, plays, and concerts featuring some of the biggest stars working in the industry today. In addition, MRE has launched several Tony Award-nominated Broadway, international and national touring productions including: Peter Pan, Seussical the Musical, and Annie Get Your Gun, all starring Cathy Rigby; Frank Wildhorn’s Jekyll and Hyde starring American Idol star and Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis along with Grammy Award nominee and R&B superstar Deborah Cox; Jesus Christ Superstar starring Carl Anderson and Sebastian Bach; Camelot starring Michael York and Lou Diamond Phillips and Happy Days written by Gary Marshall and Paul Williams. Since 1990, Peter Pan starring Cathy Rigby has made four stops on Broadway, four Tony Award nominations including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Actress in a Musical. Excited to announce that my 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization Inclusion Media Group is partnering with seven Southern California theatre organizations for the 2020 “Raise Your Voice” Playwright Competition.
The participating theatres, which are 3-D Theatricals 5-Star Theatricals High Street Arts Center McCoy Rigby Entertainment Musical Theatre West San Diego Musical Theatre and Skylight Theatre Company will each choose a winning play or musical by BIPOC and LGBTQ+ playwrights to receive a cash award and a reading that will utilize a diverse production team. The participating theatres will also consider the winning works for benefit performances or placement in a future season.
The works, which must tell a story that depicts an aspect of the range of experiences of and/or issues facing BIPOC and LGBTQ+ people and that feature characters of color, need to be submitted for consideration by August 7, 2020 at the following: https://filmfreeway.com/RaiseYourVoice-PlaywrightCompetition.
Winners will be notified by September 25, 2020. Between September 25-October 2, each theatre will contact the winners regarding scheduling for the reading of their work. This competition is only open to BIPOC and LGBTQ+ playwrights who hold residence in the United States of America and are U.S. citizens.
