Coloring induces the same state as meditating by reducing the thoughts of a restless mind. It generates mindfulness and quietness, allowing your mind to rest. Other health benefits of coloring include improved motor skills, vision, sleep and focus. I have always loved colors. Those who know me well, and even not so well, will tell you that I love colors. The brighter, the better. And Orange??? We’
ll talk about that as we go along. I play around with colors when I sew, and that can, and always put my mind and body into relax. Zero to relax in sixty seconds!!! I don’t sew much anymore but I still, when the urge is overwhelming, pull down a complete item of clothing just bought, and do my thing with it. Covid has rearranged most, if not all of our lives. Being at home looking through the window became the norm. I found an old coloring book belonging to my granddaughter, and stubs of what was left of the colored pencils after there was nothing more to hold in the pencil sharpener. And I started to color……..I colored until there was nothing left to color and then I searched for any white spot and color again. Fast forward to today when I share with you some of the pieces I have colored. And I have been buying adult coloring books since I am no longer a novice. Yes, I said it. It is difficult to explain what happens to you, your mind, your body, your spirit, your entire being, when you start to color. No, coloring is not just for kids. That’s what they make adult coloring books. Remember zero to relax in sixty? Well think now zero to utopia in thirty. As you focus on the pattern, the colors, where to start, what color to start with, you literally feel like you are floating in another realm. From a distance the world looks blue and green and the snowcapped mountains white. I know that some of you don’t believe me, some trying to believe but think that I am way too dramatic, and others who move right along. But challenge me, try it and share with me. We can color the same pattern or we can do different ones. We can color at the same patterns using different colors. And, we can start with the same pattern and the same first color, and see how each of us is taken to a different place in the end. I don’t usually start with any particular pattern in mind but I tend to start with, you guessed it, the color orange. I try to use complimentary colors as I go along, or contrasting colors when I feel very creative. Most times I start in the middle and work my way out and other times I might start from one corner and work my way in. Color with me and let us see where it takes us individually, and as a group.
