Today I have 13 years clean.

For a long time, I never thought the life I have today would be possible. For a long time, I never even pictured myself past the age of 21… let alone getting clean and staying clean.

And yet, here I am.

13 years clean.

I am 34 years old. An artist. A health care professional for over 10 years. A college student in my second semester. Head over heels in love with the love of my life. Backed by an unwavering unconditional support system.

Grateful is an understatement. Life is too precious. The truth is, a lot of people unfortunately don’t make it out alive. Multiple friends of mine did not make it out alive.

I did.

I don’t do things perfectly. I never will. But I am damn proud of who I continue to grow into.

I share this message of hope for anyone who is still struggling or thinks long-term recovery isn’t possible. I don’t personally work an AA/NA program anymore, but I know plenty of strong women and men who do. If you need help, there is no shame in that. You deserve a life you once thought was impossible. Please reach out and ask for help.

If I can do it, you can too.

If no one has told you they love you today, I love you. ❤️

Incase you missed my previous post

Today I dropped off “The Body Keeps Score, Pt. IIII” to her forever owner. This piece has lived in two exhibitions, one of them my first solo show.

While painting it, I thought a lot about the not-so-ideal things that happened to me, more specifically, living at the because of those things, and how my nervous system never had the chance to stop. I just kept going.

But when I finally felt safe, my body didn’t know how to be still. This painting is about the moments I kept going, kept growing, even when I didn’t want to.

When I looked up the client who purchased TBKS Pt. IIII, I discovered she is deeply involved with the very same YWCA I once lived at.

A surreal, emotional, full-circle moment. I couldn’t be more grateful that this is who is taking her home. It may sound corny but I believe that this was the universe letting me know I’m on the right path.

I am very proud of the woman I have become and continue to grow into from the young girl who once lived here.
