🌞🌿 The solstice arrives every year.
This version of you does not.

As those of us in the Northern Hemisphere welcome the Summer Solstice, and our friends in the Southern Hemisphere welcome the Winter Solstice, I'm reminded that every season has something to teach us.

The solstice comes and goes. The seasons turn. The years pass whether we're paying attention or not. But this version of you only exists right now. So today, let's pause for a moment and notice what is here... and who you are, right now. The person you are today. The things you're learning. The things you've let go and the things you're carrying. And all of the ways you're still growing, and loving, and learning.

The solstice will return.

You will not arrive here in quite the same way again.

There will never be another June 2026 you.

Happy winter solstice, it only gets brighter from here!

The winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere occurs annually on December 21 or 22 (December 21 in 2025), marking the shortest day and longest night of the year with the least daylight. This happens because Earth's axis tilts, positioning the Northern Hemisphere at its maximum distance from the Sun, so sunlight strikes at a lower angle and for fewer hours.

For millennia, the winter solstice has held profound significance for cultures across the globe. The deep winter darkness and the triumphant return of lengthening days have shaped ancient calendars, inspired seasonal customs, rituals, and rich storytelling traditions, many of which are still preserved and celebrated today in national parks through historic sites, interpretive programs, and modern observances.
