🇺🇸HAPPY LABOR DAY FROM FERNALD FIELD DRAGWAY!🇺🇸

Drag racing has always been built on hard work — late nights in the garage, long days at the track, countless hours wrenching, tuning, prepping and chasing that next tenth.

And, of course, the hardworking folks who punch the clock all week so they can punch the throttle on the weekend! 😉

In recognition of Labor Day, Fernald Field Dragway will be CLOSED Friday, September 4th through Monday, September 7th, giving our hardworking crew a well-earned long weekend to rest, recharge and spend time with family and friends. 💙

Here’s to hard work, horsepower and a well-earned weekend off! Happy Labor Day from Maine’s House of Hook!🇺🇸

🎉106 RACERS. PACKED PITS. THREE UNFINISHED FINALS. 🎉

What a ride last Sunday was at Fernald Field Dragway at our Points Series #12 & Darling's No Time Race! 🔥

The attendance was high, the burnouts were endless, the competition was fierce — and somehow, we still have THREE finals left to run! 😅🏆

From packed pits to round after round of great racing, it was one of those Sundays that reminded us just how much action we can fit into one day at Maine’s House of Hook. 😎

While we wait to get those final three matchups back to the starting line, here are some memories captured by Trackshot Photo to help us reminisce about the day!

📸 Take a scroll, tag your racing buddies, and show Trackshot Photo some love for capturing the moments that make race days like this so special.

We’ll see you back at the track next weekend!🥳

🔥MAINE’S HOUSE OF HOOK JUST GOT AN UPGRADE!🔥

Last Friday, we officially took delivery of our custom-built track scraper from Troy Hopkins at OUTLAW MANUFACTURING , and to say we’re excited would be an understatement!

Giving our racers the best racing surface—and the best hook—we possibly can takes a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes. An important part of that is being able to scrape the track efficiently and effectively when the surface needs it's weekly reset. Thanks to Troy, we now have a tool built specifically to help us do just that! 👏

Sending a HUGE thank you to Mr. William Larrabee who helped design this wonderful tool! As you can see in the photos below, W***y is always willing to lend his knowledge, experience, and a helping hand to Fernald Field Dragway, and we appreciate him more than we can say!😊

♻️ AND HERE’S THE REALLY COOL PART…
Ever wonder why we’re always asking you to bring us your bottles and cans?! You’re looking at it. 👀

The supplies needed to build this incredibly useful piece of track-prep equipment were purchased using funds from YOUR donated bottle and can returnables!♻️ Those bags of returnables might not seem like much individually, but they add up—and this is a perfect example of exactly where that money goes.

Every bottle. Every can. Every donation. It all goes right back into Fernald Field Dragway. 💙

Thank you to Troy, W***y, Russ and every single person who has donated bottles and cans to the track. This upgrade is possible because of you!🥳

🏁 NEW CLASS ANNOUNCEMENT — INTRODUCING JR. STREET! 🏁

We’ve heard from families who want a safe, structured way to introduce the next generation to drag racing when a Junior Dragster isn't necessarily feasible, and that's why we’re excited to announce that Fernald Field Dragway will now offer a Jr. Street Class! 🚗💨

Designed for young drivers ages 13–16, Jr. Street gives teens the opportunity to experience real drag racing in a street-legal vehicle with an approved supervising adult riding right alongside them in the passenger seat.

So, how does Junior Street work? Here’s a breakdown of the rules and requirements: 👇

👦👧 DRIVER AGE: Participants must be at least 13 years old and may participate through October 31st of the year they turn 16.

🚘 VEHICLES: Full-bodied cars, trucks, vans & SUVs are permitted. Vehicles must be:
- Street legal, registered, inspected (if required) & currently insured
- Equipped with the correct state-issued license plate
- Equipped with mufflers
- Running DOT-approved street tires — no slicks
- Capable of running 9.00 seconds or slower in the 1/8-mile
- No back-halved or wheel-tubbed vehicles

Note: Motorcycles, race cars and open-top SUVs are not permitted. Convertibles are permitted, but the top must remain closed.

⏱ ET LIMIT: Jr. Street vehicles must run 9.00 seconds or slower during qualifying.

👨👩👧 SUPERVISING ADULT: Every run must include an approved supervising adult in the passenger seat. The adult must be the participant's parent/legal guardian OR at least 25 years old with a valid driver's license.

The teen may drive only from the staging lanes → starting line → racetrack → return road → time-slip booth. The supervising adult must drive everywhere else, including throughout the pits and into staging.

✅ QUALIFYING REQUIREMENT:
Before competing in the Jr. Street Class, the driver and their parent, legal guardian, or responsible adult age 25+ must successfully complete three qualifying passes with a designated member of the Fernald Field Dragway team.

During these passes, a designated FFD team member — likely our Tech Inspector — will ride along with the teen driver. This gives our team an opportunity to evaluate the driver's comfort level, understanding of vehicle controls, ability to safely operate the vehicle, track awareness and understanding of the complete process of making a pass at Fernald Field Dragway.

Our goal isn't simply to determine whether a young driver can get a vehicle from the starting line to the finish line. We want to teach them how to do it correctly, confidently and safely. ❤

🏁 STAFF DISCRETION & CONTINUED ELIGIBILITY:
The qualifying process is designed to meet each young driver where they are. Any portion of the qualifying process may be modified or waived at the discretion of an authorized Fernald Field Dragway staff member when the participant has demonstrated the experience, knowledge and ability necessary to safely compete.

Participation in the Jr. Street Class is a privilege and remains subject to continued staff approval. Fernald Field Dragway reserves the right to suspend or revoke a participant's eligibility at any time if staff determines that the driver, supervising adult, vehicle, conduct or circumstances present a safety concern or are otherwise inconsistent with track rules and expectations.

Safety and good judgment will always come before competition.

⛑ SAFETY EQUIPMENT: Both the teen driver AND supervising adult must:
- Wear seat belts
- Wear an approved helmet meeting current requirements
- Wear appropriate clothing — no shorts, bare legs, tank tops or bare torsos

🏎 Participants may not compete in another racing class except Jr. Dragster.

❤ WHY ARE WE ADDING JR. STREET WITH WEEKS LEFT TO THE SEASON?

Because the future of our sport depends on giving young people an opportunity to learn it.

We had our first thirteen-year-old ask us to teach them how to drag race in something other than a Junior Dragster — and at Fernald Field Dragway, we love to teach!

Jr. Street creates a structured environment where teens can learn vehicle control, track procedures, racing etiquette and safety alongside an experienced adult — while getting the chance to experience what it's like to stage a car, see those bulbs drop and make a pass down the dragstrip themselves.

For some, Jr. Street may be their first step toward becoming a lifelong racer. For others, it may simply give them the opportunity to experience and better understand the sport their family already loves.

Either way, the next generation has to start somewhere. We can't think of a better place to start than Maine's House of Hook!😎

🚦 Interested in getting your 13 to 16-year-old into our Jr. Street Class? Join us on Points Series Sundays, beginning THIS SUNDAY, August 30th (Points Series #12 & Darling's No Time Race)! 🏁

This was truly a community effort, and because of you, local students will begin their school year with new supplies of their very own and one less thing for their families to worry about.

Sending a huge shoutout to Mik McCue (pictured below) & Bryanna Parker for volunteering their time to help sort supplies, stuff backpacks, organize donations per school, and make deliveries with Crystal. We couldn't have done this without you! 💙

Fernald Field Dragway may be a place where we come together because of our love for drag racing, but moments like these are exactly why we created FFD's Racing for a Reason Community Giving Calendar. Our community reaches far beyond the starting line, and we're incredibly proud of what we can accomplish when we all come together for a reason. 🤝
