Published in 1984 by Dr. Beth Turner as a resource to document, promote, and preserve the work of Black theatre makers, ‘Black Masks Magazine’ has illuminated the voices of Black theatre for four decades.

As the magazine takes its final bow, we celebrate 40 years of ‘Black Masks’ and the artists and stories it championed along the way.

An exhibition honoring Beth Turner and the legacy of ‘Black Masks’, presented by FAMU Essential Theatre, is on view through August 29 in Tallahassee, Florida.
