It is always fun to find out that the shop has touched someone! Saw this posted by our friend, Penney. Franca has shared images of how our garden ornaments have enhanced her yard and Melissa is sharing weekly updates of Publick House goodies that delight the followers of her influential home design Instagram! No wonder that we don't get to sit down during open hours!

With only ONE WEEK LEFT UNTIL WE OPEN for the season, the fun continues in preparations. Another sign is nearing completion. This is one that will be two sided and will hang like an old pub sign.
This work has been a wonderful healing as my eye sight has returned. It brought back memories of mural painting in the '70's, sign painting for Grossman's Lumber in the '80's as well as creating signs for local businesses like Frank Amarosa's Ashuelot Coffee and Tea emporium! Who remembers their coffee cart at the old flea market, or the charming bistro on main street's river front with its deck out back?

This weird engine is the 18th century equivalent to have a lot of tabs open in your web browser!
It allowed researchers to work efficiently with up to 8 open books at the same time. I guess that the old saying "if it looks stupid but it works, then it's not stupid" applies in this case 😂

In just a split second your world might change.

Yesterday a tractor trailer passed Marisca on 91 and, near the Whatley/Deerfield exit, a block of ice and snow the size of a small refrigerator flew off into her. The lethal white tractor trailer and white cab didn't stop. Not clearing off the tops of the trucks is illegal.

Our little, old Matrix gave its life to save her. We were all shook to the core - tears of relief and long hugs once all together, then an evening of occasional nervous laughter to keep the fear of ' what if ' at a distance. Minor scratches and bits of glass turning up, even after her shower.

Deep breaths and reminding daily to cherish each other.

Got books? We sure do! Chris has been spending the winter break working to organize our book barn. We have thematic sections and new signage but still the same crazy low prices. Of course this is only a teaser since we don't reopen until March. Till then, keep warm, support your library, and we will see you in the spring!

Our shop operates in the original 1860 farmhouse and barns that became the first Kulick’s Market, started by Karol Kulikowski. Robert S Evans began renting the barns in the 1970’s and soon his Fat Chance Antiques took over the property, drawing antiquarians and collectors from the world over for forty years.

Publick House Art, Antiques, and (Almost) Everything opened in April of 2019. Books, Art and Ephemera are our main focus. We carry the works of some local artists, we have an extensive candy counter, and a popular dollar section. We are also proud purveyors of all things outdated (such as brown-ie-real-wood furniture)! This setting evokes an old country store where you can sit, visit, read, or explore. There are bound to be treasures to discover.

Our regular shop season is Vernal Equinox to Winter Solstice (March 20-December 20) and any changes are as posted on the website and on site. We always plan to close January and part of February to continue shop renovations, as well as avoid ice slippage to our customers, and freshen the merchandise so as to keep our clean and curated appearance as we expand the floor space.
