To say this weekend was great is an understatement. This wasn't some overly done tattoo convention. This was a weekend of learning at seminars, meeting new people, bonding, and bulls**tting with some of the greatest artists in this country. A gathering of artists truly dedicated to the craft; sharing knowledge, telling stories, and bonding.
I sat down for hours and discussed machine building with Erik Inclan and Adam Ceferi, as well as historical events, and amazing stories. We learned about art flow, freehand drawing on skin, tattoo history, and enjoyed Paul Booth with his art fusion and black and grey creative structure. So much to list.
I spend most of today hanging out with Adam, talking, learning, and then hijacking supplies so he could draw on me. During this time, it wasnt about getting tattooed. It was being a tattooer, getting tattooed by someone who can apply his art, and explain certain techniques with the machines, as well as machine builder talk and just plain ol everyday life events.
It makes me appreciate tattooing in the perspective that everyone should look at, and perspectives that new artists are not entertaining that they are truly missing out on.
It was an event they put together because they LOVE this craft. No admission fees, nothing. It was made because they WANT to share the knowledge. They want to keep tattooing about the CRAFT. Having men and women offering their knowledge in a setting like this for free, says something about it.
People from all over the country were invited to this. They didn't go to tattoo. They didn't go to try to win some fu**in award. They went to sit, and listen. They went to collaborate in making art. They went to improve. And they went to support the CRAFT. The INDUSTY is the corporate cuck, trying to change s**t to improve monetary value. The CRAFT is simply the desire and the passion to make tattooing memorable, and meaningful.
I am beyond thankful for everyone who put their hard work into making this happen. And I am thankful for being welcomed to partake.
