ArtLive: bga - Soft Sea Lewis II, Paul Furneaux

For more than a decade, Scottish artist Paul Furneaux has explored traditional Japanese woodblock printing, mokuhanga. After studying the technique on scholarship at Tama Art University in Tokyo, a residency in Norway sparked a creative shift—from traditional flat prints to using printed surfaces as “skins” that clothe three-dimensional forms.

arttextstyle: New York State of Mind

New York has left its mark on countless artists at browngrotta arts—from those who were born and raised there to those who simply passed through and were forever changed by the experience.

New this Week: FigureHead - Ferne Jacobs

A pioneer of fiber art since the 1960s, Ferne Jacobs transforms ancient basketmaking techniques into striking three-dimensional sculpture. Using coiled, twined, and knotted thread, she builds forms that blur the boundaries between basketry and fine art.

Her work will be featured in browngrotta arts’ upcoming Continental Drift: Encounters, North and South (October 17–25, 2026).

arttextstyle: Fall Update - Meet Trine Ellitsgaard

This fall, Continental Drift: Encounters, North and South (October 17–25) brings together artists whose work reflects the movement of ideas, materials, and cultures across the Americas.

Danish-born and based in Oaxaca, Mexico, Trine Ellitsgaard brings Scandinavian sensibility into conversation with Mexican traditions. Working with materials like agave, wool, silver, paper, palm, and seeds, she creates richly layered works where organic meets industrial and tradition meets experimentation. We’re excited to feature her work this October at browngrotta arts.

Latvian textile artist Baiba Osite transforms an eclectic mix of materials—driftwood, beach-washed plastic, cotton, linen, wool, and metal—into intricate compositions that reimagine the patterns of the natural world.

In Beach (Liedags), she deconstructs and reassembles these elements to create a new visual landscape. Her innovative approach has earned international recognition and introduced fresh possibilities to contemporary Latvian textile art.

ArtLive: bga - Glen Kaufman

In Ryuku Mura I, II & III, Glen Kaufman combines silk twill weaving with silkscreened photographic imagery and metallic leaf, using a technique he perfected in Japan. The result: architectural, grid-like views that echo both Eastern shoji screens and Western windowpanes. Weaving meets photography meets metalwork, all in one cloth.
