Turns out, the days are long and the years are really, really short.⁣
⁣
We spend so much time talking about the gift of camp - sending kids away, watching them find their people, build independence, create a home away from home and come back a little more themselves than when they left.⁣
⁣
And then one day, you realize maybe camp was preparing 𝘶𝘴 for this part, too.⁣
⁣
What a privilege it is to watch them grow into lives they can’t wait to live. Even when we’d give anything to slow it all down.⁣
⁣
Maybe that’s one more gift of camp we don’t talk about enough. It teaches our kids that they can leave home, find another place they belong - and be ready for whatever home comes next.⁣
⁣

𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗸. I get 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗸.⁣
There’s a difference.⁣
⁣
Homesick is missing where you came from.⁣
𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲.⁣
⁣
It’s missing the version of yourself that laughed til your stomach hurt. The one who stayed up talking in the bunk. Who jumped into the lake without thinking twice. Who sang louder than anyone else at lineup. Who made friends that somehow became family in just a few short weeks. Who forgot what time was. Who forgot where their phone was. Who remembered what it felt like to just…be a kid.⁣
⁣
That’s why coming home feels so different.⁣
You’re not just leaving camp. You’re leaving the place where you got to be the freest version of yourself. And maybe that’s why so many campers spend the rest of the year wishing they could go back.⁣
⁣
Not because they miss the lake. Or Color War. Or the campfires. But because they miss the person they were here. ⁣
⁣
𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁.⁣

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸…⁣

They’re not ignoring you.⁣
They’re grieving something really wonderful.⁣
⁣
They’re missing the place where they laughed the hardest…⁣
felt the freest…⁣
and got to be completely themselves.⁣
⁣
Eventually (if it hasn’t already because in some places it certainly has!), school will start.⁣
The routines will come back.⁣
Life will move forward.⁣
⁣
But for just a little while…⁣
let them stay at camp.⁣
⁣

✨ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗸𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲...⁣
⁣
…to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.⁣
⁣
Every August, it happens.⁣
The buses pull away. The hugs last a little longer. The group chats come back to life. Parents try to hold back tears. Campers promise they’ll FaceTime that night. Counselors say, “See you next summer.”⁣
⁣
And just like that…⁣
a place that felt like your whole world becomes a place you have to wait another year to return to.⁣
⁣
That’s the thing about camp.⁣
It doesn’t just give kids an incredible summer.⁣
It gives them friendships that make goodbyes feel impossible.⁣
It gives parents the gift of watching their children become more independent, more confident, more resilient…and then somehow sends home a version of them that feels just a little bit older than the one who left in June.⁣
It gives counselors a summer they’ll measure every other summer against.⁣
It gives Directors a reason to spend all year counting down until Opening Day.⁣
And it gives all of us something that’s becoming harder and harder to find…⁣
⁣
A place that feels like home.⁣
So if your heart feels a little heavier this week…⁣
that’s okay.⁣
⁣
It just means this summer mattered.⁣
