Hello everyone. It is with much sadness but also much gratitude and appreciation that I let you all know that World Music Weekend is going to have to be canceled, or at least postponed for the time being. Ticket sales are just not where they should be and the venue has suggested that we hold off and our board and sponsors agree. I agree too.

I think what we were preparing for was going to be really special and I do hope to attempt it, or something like it, in the future with more prep time and energy.

I want to really emphasize how grateful I am for all of your support and willingness to try to pull this off. Cultural music is something I studied in college and it’s really important to me and I know it is to all of you as well. This doesn’t mean no forever, just for now.

I want to send a special thanks to Kimberly, the Night Nurse, who has been promoting this event on her radio show, Reggae Redemption. Please go give her a follow and support her.

We’re going to take some time to pause, reflect, and readjust. Please join us on September 21st at 6pm at Long Leaf Park for Peace Day in the Park. Shelter 6!

Peace,
Anna 🌻☮️

Welcome SeaLevel Stringband to World Music Weekend at Hannah Block Historic USO- Community Arts Center on the second day of the event, August 30! ☮️

Sealevel Stringband is an old-time string band based in Wilmington, NC, dedicated to keeping the tradition of Appalachian mountain music alive — even down here at sea level. The name is a nod to that contrast: music born in the hills and hollers of Appalachia, now played and shared along the Cape Fear coast. 🎻

Old-time music is rooted in the music traditions of the Southern Appalachians, traditionally played on fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, and upright bass, all acoustic, all played together rather than in solo turns. Musicians gather in a circle, locking into the same tune for verse after verse, building a hypnotic, danceable groove meant to be played together rather than performed for an audience. 🪕

That spirit of togetherness is at the heart of what the Sealevel Stringband does. They host a bi-monthly open jam session at Fermental in Wilmington, NC, welcoming pickers, fiddlers, and listeners of all skill levels. All are welcome to pull up a chair, join the circle, and take part in a tradition that’s been passed down, tune by tune, for generations. 🪗

Special thanks to Night Nurse Reggae Redemption Radio and Jesse Bradley (Kind of Cool Productions) as well as The Children's Museum of Wilmington and Wilmington Symphony Orchestra who will all be onsite doing their thing! ☮️

Welcome Trio Romanze! They’ll be playing World Music Weekend on Sunday, August 30th, toward the beginning of the day. Check out encoreILM for the exact times!

Trio Romanze was founded in Wilmington, North Carolina in 2022 when band leader Daniel Ramirez set out to create a unique musical group with a fresh flow and authentic Latin vibe. The band originally began as a duo, but later welcomed a percussionist, whose rhythmic style completed the sound and transformed the group into the trio it is today.

Inspired by passion for romantic music, the group chose the name Romanze, a nod to the timeless spirit of romance and heartfelt expression that defines in each performances.

Today, Trio Romanze performs a vibrant blend of Latin music influenced by the traditions of Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. The repertoire includes boleros, son, bachata, and other beloved Latin styles, along with creative Spanish-language interpretations of classic rock hits. The performances combine rich harmonies, lively rhythms, and a romantic atmosphere that brings audiences together through music. ☮️

Special thanks to presenting sponsors, The Night Nurse Reggae Redemption Radio and Jesse Bradley

A slight change in the lineup! On the poster, you’ll see Perry Smith (Perry Smith) but in that place will actually be Perry’s band, AXIOM! 😎

AXIOM is a collaboration of multi-instrumentalists Mike Hanson, Diana Zaccaria, and Perry Smith. They have been performing in the Wilmington area since 2010 with appearances at restaurants, breweries and special events. Their influences are a mixture of Latin Pop, West African Polyrhythms, and Middle Eastern music. They are excited to have Kelly Hawes, Samra, join them for an exciting display of Belly Dance.

Catch them at 2:45pm on August 29 at HBHUSO/Community Arts Center for World Music Weekend, co-presented by Night Nurse Reggae Redemption Radio and Jesse Bradley (Kind of Cool Productions)
