Monica Twigg Fine Art

Monica Twigg Fine Art I would describe my art as emotional realism. My Goal is to create decorative art that speaks to your soul!

Most of the inspiration for my work comes from my beloved coastal hometown of Wilmington, NC and events that have occurred in my life.

🐚🄳 The original of Cottage by the Sea Has Found her Forever Home 🄳🐚

This sale is especially meaningful to me because Cottage by the Sea was the very first original released from my Coastal Collection. To see it connect with collectors so quickly is both humbling and incredibly encouraging. As an artist, you never truly know how your work will be received when you release it into the world, and I am deeply grateful for the enthusiasm and support this piece has received.

Sometimes the right piece finds the right person almost immediately.

As Jack was unloading this original and several framed prints from the boat on Bald Head Island, Cottage by the Sea caught a collector's eye before it had even made its way into The Silver Peddler.

A few days later, the collector and his wife returned to the store, and Jack graciously allowed them to view the painting in their Bald Head Island home along with several framed prints from my Coastal Collection to ensure each piece was the perfect fit for the spaces they had in mind.

The fit was perfect! šŸŽÆ

Not only did Cottage by the Sea find its new home, but several additional framed prints from my Coastal Collection found their forever home as well.

What makes this sale even more special is the story behind the painting itself. Cottage by the Sea was inspired by cherished childhood memories of visiting my Aunt Ivy's cottage along the coast. What began as a treasured memory, and later came to life in my studio, will now become part of another family's story and a place where new memories will be made for years to come.

As an artist, there is no greater compliment. 🄰

To the collector who chose to welcome my artwork into your home, thank you. As soon as our schedules align, I look forward to meeting you personally.

And to everyone who follows my journey, comments on posts, and supports my art in countless ways—thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Every original painting is one of a kind. Once it finds its home, there will never be another exactly like it. Each original is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity, documenting its place within my Coastal Collection and preserving its provenance and story for generations to come.

For those who have admired Cottage by the Sea, framed prints are currently available at The Silver Peddler, 1051 Salon & Spa, Uptown Market, and online at monicatwiggfineart.com.

People often ask what inspires my paintings.

The truth is, most of my artwork begins long before I ever pick up a paintbrush.

Sometimes it's a graceful heron standing quietly at the water's edge, a weathered cottage by the sea, a tired old tugboat that has weathered countless storms, or the beauty of a simple oyster.

Sometimes it's a memory.

And sometimes it's a season of life.

Some of my paintings celebrate joy, wonder, and a sense of nostalgia for a special place. Others are inspired by moments of loss, healing, growth, and the people who have shaped my journey.

I've always believed the most meaningful art tells a story. Not just my story, but yours as well.

As I spend time at Uptown Market and meet the people who stop by my space, I'm reminded that the pieces that resonate most are often the ones that connect us to a memory, a feeling, or someone we hold dear.

My greatest reward is when someone sees one of my paintings and pauses for a moment—because it reminds them of a special place, a cherished memory, or a person they never want to forget.

That's what inspires me to keep creating.

I'd love to hear from you...

What place, memory, tradition, or moment would you love to hold onto forever?

"✨ Last week, one of our wonderful customers came into the store and was immediately drawn to a particular piece of artwork by Monica Twigg, our talented local artist from Wilmington.

As I walked over to speak with her, she became emotional and shared that she had recently lost her dad. She had been searching for the perfect oyster print—something that would remind her of him and hold a special meaning. After looking around, she pointed to this piece and said, ā€œThat’s the one.ā€

The title of the artwork is ā€œThe World Is Your Oyster,ā€ and in that moment, it became so much more than a beautiful piece of art. It became a connection to cherished memories, love, and the people we carry with us.

We often say that magic happens at The Silver Peddler, and this was one of those moments that reminded us why we do what we do. It’s never just about the items on our shelves—it’s about the stories they tell and the way they touch our hearts.

Thank you to our customers for allowing us to be a small part of life’s meaningful moments. šŸ’«šŸ¦Ŗā¤ļø"

One of the questions I’m asked most often is, ā€œWhere can I see your artwork in person?ā€

I created this guide to share the wonderful local partners who carry my work, along with a few of my paintings and inspirational stories behind some of my most meaningful pieces.

What makes this especially meaningful to me is that just a few years ago, I never imagined sharing my artwork beyond family and friends. Watching this journey grow from a simple passion into a business supported by these wonderful local partners has been both humbling and inspiring.

I’m incredibly grateful to these businesses for supporting me and my art, and for helping me share it with our amazing community.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey. ā¤ļø

I’m honored to share that my original watercolor painting, The World is Your Oyster, has been selected for inclusion in the 27th Annual Landfall Foundation Art Show.

This painting holds a special place in my heart. What began as a simple oyster painting became the catalyst for an entirely new chapter in my life.

Thank you to the Landfall Foundation and the jurors for this incredible opportunity.

I hope to see you at the show August 25–27.

A few weeks ago, I shared a sneak peek of the incredible sign my longtime friend Mike Yablonski, owner of MY Forgeworks , created for my new space at Uptown Market.

After many hours of work—and a lot of help from my sweetie, Clint Ladd , who helped me build a reclaimed wood wall worthy of this ah-mazing sign—it is finally finished and installed. ā¤ļø

What I didn't tell you is that after Mike delivered it, I was honestly nervous to paint it, which is saying something considering I paint for a living.

The sign was already a work of art all by itself. Every curve was hand-forged, shaped, and crafted by Mike, and I kept thinking, "Please don't mess this up." Thankfully, with a little paint and a lot of deep breaths, it all came together exactly as I had hoped.

I've admired Mike's work for years, and having one of his pieces become the centerpiece of my gallery space means more than I can put into words. If you've never seen his work, do yourself a favor and check out MY Forgeworks. The craftsmanship is incredible.

Creating this space has truly been a labor of love. From building walls and hanging artwork to designing displays and adding all the little details, so much care has gone into making it feel welcoming and inspiring.

If you'd like to see the sign in person—and see my entire collection of artwork—stop by my space at Uptown Market in Porters Neck. Pictures are wonderful, but there is something special about seeing the artwork in person. Mike, thank you for creating something so beautiful. It will be treasured for many years to come.

Some places leave such a profound feeling in your heart that they stay with you for a lifetime.

ā€œCottage by the Seaā€ was inspired by some of my most treasured childhood memories growing up along the coast of Wilmington, NC. As a little girl, my mother would often take me to visit my Aunt Ivy and Uncle Kelly at their charming waterfront cottage on the water. Long before I understood why, I was always excited to go there. Looking back now, I realize it was more than simply visiting family — it was the feeling that place gave me. A feeling of peace, comfort, connection, and the kind of quiet joy that stays with you long after childhood has passed.

I can still remember standing beside Uncle Kelly as he pulled crab pots from the water before eagerly following Aunt Ivy into the kitchen to ā€œhelpā€ her make the most incredible crab dip I have ever tasted. Now, I realize how gathering around that a table, sharing a meal and the smell of food can preserve some of our most cherished family memories.

When creating this painting, I wanted to capture the essence of those memories of Aunt Ivy’s Cottage and the deep sense of calm that still draws me to the sea today.

I am honored to announce the release of the 18x24 one-of-a-kind original ā€œCottage by the Seaā€ as the very first of my originals that I have ever released, exclusively available through The Silver Peddler on Bald Head Island for $2,500.

Framed and unframed prints are also available through Jack & Liz at The Silver Peddler. I’ve shared the full story and inspiration behind ā€œCottage by the Seaā€ in the first comment below for anyone who would like to read it.

Thank you for supporting my art, my stories, and this dream that continues to grow one piece at a time. šŸ¤

I was going to wait until after I painted and installed this BEAUTY but I am just too dang excited not to share a sneak peak of the sign that my long time friend Mike Yablonski custom made for me. It is so much more than a sign it is an absolute work of art!!!!

I have wanted a piece of his work for years and am so grateful he made the time to make this sign for my new space at Uptown Market in Porter's neck. He was the blacksmith at Poplar Grove Plantation for years and now he has his own 3,500 square foot forge called MY Forgeworks. Stay tuned to see the final product or stop by my new space at Uptown Market next week to check it out in person!!
