Some gift ideas from the artists of Port City Pottery & Fine Crafts.
Lauren Rogers just brought in new additions to her pottery! Pour-Over Coffee mugs that fit over the top of any of Lauren’s mugs. Here’s her Pour-Over Coffee Recipe/How-To:
1. Measure the appropriate amount of water in the mug you wish to use (take into consideration space for cream)
2. Transfer water to a stove appropriate pot- heat to a low simmer
3. Insert a 1-4 cup cone style filter into pour-over, and place on mug
4. Add 1-2 tablespoons of ground coffee in filter
5. Slowly pour hot water directly and evenly over ground coffee
6. Add desired creamer and enjoy!
Lauren notes, *mugs and pour overs are sold separately
*Any of my mugs made since Aug 2022 are made with the pour overs in mind, so all mug mouth openings are wide enough for any one of my pour overs (also pour overs should fit most other mugs as well)

New scarves by member artist Sally Eagon. She describes them in this quote, “Canadian Snowflake pattern (my friend from Canada says it doesn’t look like any snowflake she’s ever seen. But she’s a spring chicken and this is an old traditional pattern.) Scarves in tencel and alpaca.”

This recipe is an easy breakfast made in a skillet for Black Friday. Its called an Apple Dutch Baby—I don’t know why it’s called that—but it is basically a big apple pancake!! This is currently my family’s favorite breakfast!! Once you are fed come on down to Port City Pottery on Friday and experience the friendly artists, purchase some gifts for those on your list, and feel good about supporting local artists! If you prefer to come out later—join us from 6-9pm to support two of our artists Louise Giordano and Sara Westermark as they bring in their latest work.
Here’s the original post for the Apple Dutch Baby. After trying this recipe, I’m ready to buy any cooking book she sells!! https://www.instagram.com/reel/CiXk8gcgDAE/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Louise Giordano is a fiber artist passionate about making nuno felted scarves, brooches, and bracelets. Here’s a bit of her process! Join us Friday, November 25th, from 6-9pm at Port City Pottery and Fine Crafts to see her latest work as featured artist!!
Fourth Friday is This Friday, November 25, from 6-9pm. We will feature the work of Sara Westermark, jewelry and Louise Giordano, fiber. There is still a great deal of construction downtown, but businesses and sidewalks are open. The Cotton Exchange parking lot is open and accessible from Grace Street. We hope to see you as we feature these talented artists. We will be serving wine and light snacks.
There is a lot of hype today about all the sales going on for Black Friday. It’s very chaotic and noisy. Shopping small businesses is not about how much or how cheaply you can get an item. It’s about craftsmanship and artistry and long term usefulness of the piece. It’s about living slowly and deliberately, enjoying all the blessings that we have in this life. It’s about having time to reflect on our life and giving our thoughts time to expand. Shopping small is about developing a relationship with the maker.
Today I’m sharing with you my favorite cold brewed refrigerator tea—hibiscus + ginger. Perfect to make ahead of time for your holiday meal. You can use any tea strainer, cheesecloth, or add ingredients and strain out later. To make, I add a tablespoon of each hibiscus tea and freshly cut up ginger per quart to a tea strainer then fill the jar with filtered water. Put in the refrigerator for 12-18 hours to brew. Serve with a slice of lemon and sweeten with stevia or honey. I purchase both ingredients at our local Saigon Market. Hibiscus is also called sorrel. Hibiscus tea has a lot of iron in it. Limit yourself to 1-2 glasses per day to avoid too much iron. This tea is fruity, crisp, and refreshing.
The glass dish used in these photos is made by Simone Bell. She has many beautiful fused glass pieces that are excellent for serving holiday goodies.
Holiday Gift Idea—give your guests a one of a kind handmade mugs to use during their visit! It will minimize the burden of constant dish washing! Plus each mug can reflect the personality of each guest! Come and find beautiful mugs from our many potters!
Going to Port City Pottery & Fine Crafts this afternoon! Knitted and felted bag with vintage brooch embellishments. Magnetic clasp and adjustable shoulder strap.
Port City Pottery & Fine Crafts can help you add a special flare to your home for the holidays with these hand built pottery vases by fellow artist . I’ve been following some videos and I was able to use sticks and branches to make a stabilizing bar for the arrangements. The flowers and greens I found growing in my yard, and the sticks were from branches that got damaged in the most recent hurricane. The orchid was growing inside though. Flower arranging is a very soulful and fulfilling art.
I asked members to provide recipes to share with our customers, and YiFenn Strickland shared a treasured family recipe of Vermicelli Salad for our holiday celebration! I can’t wait to make it!! It is best served in pasta bowls or plates with side walls. Pair this recipe with some of YiFenn’s pottery to make an extra special meal this holiday!! I can feel the love already!!
