Almost 10 years ago when I was still doing ceramics. In my inexperience, I ramped the kiln temperate just a touch too quickly causing stress cracks up the back side of the vessel. I remember seeing shock and astonishment on many peers’ faces when my pride pushed me to smash it into tiny pieces. They could not fathom the destruction of something I spent so much time building. I also remember seeing the same devilish excitement as I felt on several peers’ faces when I asked them to help me do it!!!! 😆 As an artist, your work may defeat you at times, and yes, I was heartbroken when I opened the kiln to see crack. running up and down this vessel. But sometimes you have to buck up and admit when you have failed, and make it memorable so you can learn to apply that lesson in the future. This pot broke my attitude for about an hour, but I can’t explain how good it felt to slam dunk this monster into a jillion little pieces!😄 Don’t let your work get the best of you, get the best of your work.
