This 16x20” acrylic painting was my entry into the Cameron art museum’s exhibit State of the Art/Art of the State that runs through September 18, 2922. There was a 24 hour window from April 1 5 PM to April 2 5 PM to take one piece of artwork to the camera museum to be placed into this exhibit. There was no jurying, every NC artist’s work was accepted, you had the opportunity to meet with a curator, and have your art exhibited in a major art museum for six months as part of the state exhibit. Cam has done this before but this is the first time I’ve ventured out to try it. It was quite the experience. I first arrived about 4:20 PM on April 1 to check out how the line would move. The line was already out the door and up the sidewalks, probably 50 yards. I waited for an hour and when the doors opened, I could tell that it was going to go very slowly. I had to leave because I was keeping my grandson that night - but returned at 8 PM, leaving my husband to babysit after getting him to bed. I re-joined the line and became close friends with my line buddies by the end of the evening because it was 2 AM before I finally got back home. By then we were all punchy and could care less whether we could meet with a nationally renowned curator or not. I did with meet with a lovely lady curator from the New York metropolitan Museum of art who gave me feedback on my entry. I’m sure she was being very kind but I didn’t feel rushed and it was actually an enjoyable experience. When I left at 2 AM, there were still a line out the museum and I saw people older than me still waiting in line to get in. This painting shows two of my grandsons, Watson and Liam, walking to the beach with Maia, my youngest son and daughter-in-law‘s dog. I love the fact that Maia is turning to look back while the boys are charging ahead. Check out this exhibit and see if you can find my artwork in the midst of it. #cathypoulosart #camstateoftheart #acrylicpainting #artist #wilmingtonnc #cameronartmuseum #wilmingtonartists #gallerywall #gallery #galleryart #artmuseum #acrylicart #coastalliving #masonboro #beach #beachlife #dogsofinstagram #grandsons #wrightsvillebeach
