Tomlinson Sales Wilmington
Hello Wilmington!
My name is Andrew Cannon and I am President of Tomlinson Sales Company. I apologize for the long post, but I’d like to ask you for your help in reading the whole post and also sharing it to help us get the word out. Thank you for your time, and thank you for your past patronage.
Tomlinson’s has been a part of the Wilmington community since 1981. We are a locally owned small business, and like the thousands of other small businesses in our community, we need your support.
These past six weeks or so have been a very trying time for our country, our state, and this great city of Wilmington. To say that what we are going through is unprecedented is to sell it short - these are truly trying times for all of us in ways that a few months ago we could have never imagined.
As most of you are aware, we made the decision to temporarily close Tomlinson’s on March 20th. We did this not because we were asked to by any governmental agency, but because we felt like it was the right thing to do. Since we have been closed we have been continuing to pay our employees. Like most of you, we have been glued to the news on the internet, TV, radio, and newspapers. We’ve been researching and working with local and state authorities to learn everything that we can to make sure that we are able to keep our employees safe and also have a safe environment for our customers. A few weeks ago we asked and received an exemption from the state of N.C. which allows us to open our store, even while the State of Emergency and stay at home orders remain in place.
After lots of research, cleaning, and preparations, we know that we are able to open the store in a safe manner. In fact, we have already started this process - we opened our doors on Monday and we are now ready to make a public announcement that we are once again OPEN FOR BUSINESS!
We hope that, if you and everyone in your household is feeling well and you are comfortable with doing so, you will choose to come shop with us. We are also asking that you support the many other great small businesses in the Wilmington community. There are hundreds of absolutely fantastic retailers, restaurants, and service businesses around Wilmington, and we all NEED your support right now.
There are some important changes that we need to make you aware of before we open back up
1. We are operating in a reduced capacity mode with many operational changes in place. We will be cleaning and sanitizing much more than we typically do - especially high touch areas like entrance and exit doors, countertops, credit card machines, etc…
2. We think that it is important to let you know that all of our employees have been paid during the time that we have been closed. We have, I believe, one of the best staffs of any facility in Wilmington, and we love our associates and appreciate their hard work and eagerness to get back to work. However, not everyone feels comfortable coming back just yet, and we understand that, so you may not see all of the smiling faces that you’re used to. Don’t worry though - they’ll be back just as soon as they feel comfortable in doing so.
3. Tomlinson’s prides ourselves on offering the absolute best prices that you can find anywhere. That will not change. Another core strength of ours is our customer service. While we are still striving to offer the absolute best customer service available, because of social-distancing policies, things will be a little different now and until things get back to normal. We are here to help - even if there are fewer of us, and even if we’re staying a little further away than we normally are.
4. Per CDC recommendations, we are limiting the number of people allowed in the store to 20 customers at a time. We do not expect to run into this limit often, but please know that if we get busy you may be asked to wait outside until another customer leaves.
5. Just as we are asking of our employees - if you or anyone in your family are not feeling well, we would like to ask that you do us a favor and stay home yourself. We will be here when you are ready. If you know specifically what you want, but are unable to come into the store, give us a call at 910-392-6252 and we will do our best to accommodate you including (when we’re able to), curbside delivery. If you are in the store and we see or hear coughing or other signs of sickness, we will ask you to leave.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, Tomlinson’s has been a part of the Wilmington community for nearly 40 years now. We’ve had another change which we are excited to announce - we are excited to welcome a new store manager, John Shope. Many of you will know John from the Wilmington community already, and possibly even from Tomlinson’s in the past. John is a UNCW graduate (Go Seahawks!) and after graduating in 1985 he was the Assistant Manager at Tomlinson’s in Wilmington for several years before moving on to manage two other Tomlinson’s locations, eventually making a career change and moving back to the Wilmington community. We are so excited to welcome John back to Tomlinson’s!
We know that you will love John and he is looking forward to seeing old friends again and meeting many new ones.
Once again, thank you for the time that you took to read this post. I appreciate it greatly. Please help us get the word out that we are open again by liking and sharing this post with your friends. If you feel comfortable, we’d like to ask if you’ll come help support us by shopping locally with us. And if you don’t feel comfortable doing that yet, we understand completely. We’ll be here when you’re ready.
Thank you, Wilmington, and we can’t wait to see you again soon!

Well it was a good thought. We will be open till Wednesday at 5pm and update y’all if we are able to do appointments as they update any new rules. Hit us up with any questions we can help with.
03/23/2020
First of all wow thank you all for the messages and calls concerned about myself and the shop. We will be following all guidelines put forth by the governor. With that said we are very hopeful we will be allowed to still do appointments they will be limited to the customer and a spouse or 1 friend no large groups unless everyone is getting tattooed. Again this is my hope they will at least allow this as we do not qualify for unemployment and are technically each self employed. I will try and keep people posted as I am made aware of the situation I know we have had interest due to boredom. We are good till Wednesday right now so hit up your artist while ya can. Again thank you so much for all the support I’ve seen today after the governors press release. AND NEVER FORGET WASH YOUR HANDS AND DON’T TOUCH YOUR FACE! Lol love you guys!
