Good Morning Artists, As many of you know, I recently accepted a position with The Friends of the Arboretum, and one of my projects is the Art in the Arboretum. We are making progress on this project and are excited to share our Save the Date notice with everyone.

We are excited to release the Save the Date for the 27th annual Art in the Arboretum on October 13th, 14th, and 15th. Last year we began transforming this beautiful show with our Re-Imagined team. This year we are thrilled to say that we have continued to build on that vision, and the show will be an Art Festival show with 70 booths covering the Beautiful Gardens, Education Center, and Greenhouse with Wilmington's unique artisans.

Art in the Arboretum will have several opportunities for artists to display their work this year. From your traditional style 10' x10' tent spaces in the gardens to our 5' x 10' under-awning spaces outside and our new 6' x 9' interior booth spaces in the Education Center and Greenhouse. We are excited about all the possibilities these spaces create for artists, from your seasoned show veteran with all the equipment to your first-timer inside, which may only have a table and easels.

We can't wait to share all the exciting changes with you, whether it's our new prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, the new VIP ticket, advertising partners, sponsors, and so much more. Please stay tuned as we begin to release more information, and look out for the official call to artists and prospectus around May 1st, 2023.

Thalian Association Community Theatre’s Artistic Director Stepping Down

WILMINGTON, NC - Thalian Association Community Theatre regretfully announces that Chandler Davis will be stepping down as Artistic Director. Her last official day will be March 3, 2023; however, she will continue to serve in the role of Artistic Consultant through the end of the year. The Association will begin a national search for her replacement in mid-March, and Davis will assist with the transition.

“Chandler put the full strength of her artistic vision and talent into everything she did with Thalian,” said Susan Habas, Executive Director of Thalian Association. “The result is an indelible mark on the organization, leaving us with a bar that has been set high on so many levels. She worked tirelessly to elevate the quality of our productions, and her leadership made miracles happen on a regular basis. Her work to make theatre more accessible and inclusive made, and will continue to make, a difference in the community. While we are sad that she is leaving to attend to personal matters, we are grateful for what she accomplished during her time with us. And we are glad she is still in our corner, as we will always be in hers.”
Davis joined Thalian Association in June of 2016, assuming responsibility for the artistic vision and theatrical productions of the organization, including:

Main Stage Thalian Hall productions

The Youth Theatre season at the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center

Summer productions at Kenan Auditorium UNCW, Cape Fear Academy, and the first ever production on the fantail of the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA.

Implementing youth arts education programs

“This was a difficult decision to make since I consider this organization my home,” said Davis. “While I believe that this is the best decision for the next chapter of my life, I am confident that TACT will continue to thrive and serve the Wilmington community for many years to come. I am eternally grateful for the skills and knowledge I have gained over the last seven years, and I appreciate the unwavering support and guidance I have received from our Executive Director Susan Habas. I look forward to assisting TACT as the company goes through this leadership transition and I am very optimistic for what the future holds for Thalian Association Community Theatre.”

Awards during Davis’s tenure included:
- Encore’s Readers’ Choice Best Theatre Company 2017-2020 and Best Production Young Frankenstein 2018
- Wilmington Theatre Awards Best Director of a Musical The Bridges Of Madison County 2019, Best Musical- Rock of Ages 2017, and Best Children's Theatre Production Hairspray 2017 and Godspell 2019.
-The inaugural class of Wilma Magazine’s Leadership Academy
-2015 nominee in the Arts category for WILMA’S Women to Watch Awards
- Wilmington Star News’ 40 Under 40 Award.



Established in 1788, Thalian Association Community Theatre is a non-profit, membership organization dedicated to enhancing the Cape Fear region through live community theatre and arts education. Thalian Association Community Theatre produces five major productions annually on the Main Stage at historic Thalian Hall and professionally manages the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center for the City of Wilmington. The youth theatre program offers training and performance opportunities for children ages seven through high school seniors. Excited to take on a new role with the Arboretum and the Friends of the Arboretum. Not really sure what we are calling it just yet but it’s like a development director position. I will be working on , fundraising, corporate events(if you need a place to host your employees)and a possibly a new art festival in the spring(Artist send me your ideas). Excited for the new opportunity and the new friends I will make this year.

We had an amazing first day yesterday Brooklyn Arts Center for - We decided to do 10% off everything this year as a play off of the $10 cover to get in, just to for fun and it adds up fast on larger paintings. Also to the first customer that came in and asked about the poll on Instagram they got a special discount. It’s always so amazing doing something like this each year for a first time buyer or a large painting that is just not within that comfort level of spending. If I could do it all the time I would. I ❤️ it! And I love all of you for the support, you are amazing and I truly appreciate it. Below are just a couple of the paintings from yesterday that found new homes! I will try and do a full list after today. Stop by and say hello, talk Art, or North Carolina Azalea Festival at Wilmington, Inc. and Wilmington Art Association Spring Art show or arboretum art show or general questions like set up, lights, framing etc and grants from Arts Council of Wilmington - that helped me purchase some of my set-up for shows. THIS WEEKEND is Made in NC, our gorgeous and diverse community craft market. It is happening Saturday, February 18th, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Sunday, February 19th, from noon - 5 p.m.

Over fifty North Carolina craft vendors and artisans will set up shop in the BAC church and Annex. We'll have food trucks both days along with coffee shop and our BAC full-service bar serving up all of your favorite beverages.

Admission is just $10 at the door—good for both days and includes a raffle ticket (kids 12 and under are free). There is plenty of free parking in the Brooklyn Arts District neighborhood. We look forward to seeing you THIS weekend!
