🖌️What’s on the cover of Siclen Valley, the board game?

Alternative Houston, Texas. This used to be a region flowing with oil. Now, it’s flowing with Mosses from Casti Mentes, the cultists who survived the flavum gas poisoning, probably the most dangerous guys in the New World.

In the foreground, there is Seto, one of the main characters in our universe and a Sacker. He lives on an orbital space station (the very top of the illustration) and flies to Earth to look for scrap. In front of Seto stands Eviette, another Sacker, who’s probably working on a competing contract. Behind Evi is her transport capsule that brought her to Earth.

In the background, Mosses are hurrying up to the sound of the triggered alarm pole they set up to catch unfortunate Sackers. They can’t miss a great opportunity to attack and take their masks away (yes, masks are the most essential resource for Mosses, because life on a flavum-poisoned Earth is no joke).

Inside the stadium looming on the left live Psuru, the high priestess of the cult, and Xud, the warchief.

ALL of these you will experience in the game: flying to Earth, gathering resources, confronting Mosses, and, of course, competing for contracts!

👾ENEMY TYPES👾

Maybe the Earth is not as lifeless as you thought... Even with the air thick with deadly gas, you keep coming across settlements of survivors you call Mosses. Most of the ones you encounter belong to the Casti Mentes cult. Their unchanged filters affect them like any other Moss, but for some reason, they're far more hostile.

There are three Moss types you'll encounter in Siclen Valley, the board game: Iters, Hasts, and Psuru/Xud.
💰 Iters are the weakest, just merchants and recruiters-they have nothing to lose, but fighting isn't their strength
🤺 Highly trained soldiers, Hasts, will put up a much better fight.
🔮⚔️ The riskiest encounter of all would be with Xud, the war chief, or Psuru, the sacred cult priestess, as they show no mercy.

You have to be smart about the risks you take! A Moss token in your Storage gives you a pretty good advantage: Moss tokens act like wild resources and may replace Resource tokens of the same or lower-level shape.

🤿MASKS & RESOURCE GATHERING🤿

To play action cards in games, you usually need ✨action points✨ (wow!) In Siclen Valley, they are called Breaths🌀. Why so?

In the world of Siclen Valley, the Earth is poisoned by a mysterious flavum gas, which led to the extinction of all living beings. When Sackers go to Earth, the only way they can breathe is through special filtration masks.

How do Masks work?
During the game, your Masks gradually wear out, leaving fewer and fewer Breaths for you to spend on playing action cards. There is a special cube and a Mask track on your player board to track the maximum number of Breaths per turn.

Players will move around the board, picking up resource tokens and leaving some spaces empty. Whenever your standee lands on an empty space, your Mask will wear out. So, don’t be greedy when picking up resources!
When it reaches 0, the round ends for you—imagine you just return to your transport capsule to clean and recharge your mask filters.

🎲MOSS ENCOUNTERS🎲

Flying to the desolate Earth for resources is not a walk in the park, you know! There are dangers lurking everywhere, and one of them is Mosses, hostile cultists, most of them from the Casti Mentes settlement.

In Siclen Valley, the board game, Moss tokens are wild resources. An encounter happens when you step on a Moss token with your standee, using the Pick-up action. When this happens, you roll these BEAUTIFUL custom attack dice from the photo and see if your roll result exceeds the Moss’s damage value.

We must say that nobody actually di*s in the game. All you want are the resources that Mosses have, and their tokens represent just that. Even though you can use a Gun for Moss Encounters (an additional purple attack dice), this is just to make you look more threatening really😅 There’s no need for the game to be dark: it’s already a post-apocalyptic world, and we want it to be an adventure for you when you play, not a survival.

📦RESOURCES📦

Round, square, hexagonal, colorful... these are resource tokens in Siclen Valley, our strategic deck-building board game!

What are resources for in Siclen Valley?
🎯 Contract fulfillment: You'll use resources to bid on Contracts
🃏 Purcasing cards: You'll exchange resources for new cards to enhance your deck with more powerful actions
🎨 Crafting: You'll exchange less valuable resources for more valuable ones to compete for the most profitable Contracts

Resources in Siclen Valley are various items Sackers can find on Earth. Most of them are mentioned in the book. Some are even important for the lore, like the only hexagon-shaped resource — the S-101 key😉

🎯CONTRACT FULFILLMENT & BIDDING🎯

These are Contract cards from our deck-building board game called Siclen Valley. Every Contract requires specific resources that you will pick up on Earth.

It’s simple:
1️⃣ You pick up a resource on Earth, a.k.a. the game board
2️⃣ You use the action called Ship to place the resource on the Contract that requires it. Each Contract card has a dedicated space for every player, making bids easy to track.
3️⃣ The player who shipped the most required resource tokens fulfills the Contract and gets its bonus and VP. The other players who also shipped bids on the Contract but didn’t fulfill it may spend their tokens to buy new action cards!

We’re sure you’ll love how contract fulfillment and bidding work in Siclen Valley! They make every play exciting and intense.
By the way, ALL the characters from Contracts appear in the novel one way or the other! What novel? Check out our pre-launch page on Kickstarter to learn more!

🆙PLAYER BOARDS AND UPGRADES🆙

In Siclen Valley, you play as a Sacker, an ex-courier for the largest IT corporation of the Old World. Your player board is your transport capsule that you use to travel to desolated Earth and back and deliver goods to Station residents.

What does your capsule include:
📦 Ample storage for 4 resources from Earth (the capacity can be increased)
🃏 Two zones for your Draw and Discard piles (your Draw pile face-down looks like a big porthole!)
🤿 A Mask filter track that determines the max number of Breaths (or action points) you have each turn
⬆️ Three tracks of upgrades, which look like a server room where you can “light up” bonuses using colorful, transparent cubes. These cubes also bring you VP at the end of the game!

There is also a unique capsule design for each character on the back of the player boards🥰

❓If you stayed here till the end, what's your favorite thing in a player board?❓

🃏MULTI-USE CARDS🃏

Siclen Valley is a deck-building game, so everything you can do revolves around action cards.

Almost every card in Siclen Valley contains two action types:
🗑️ Discard Action: You play it once by placing the card into your Discard pile. It won’t come back until your draw deck reshuffles.
🔒Inventory Action: You lock the card in your Inventory above the player board and can reuse this action once per turn.

Your starting deck includes 10 action cards, and you can purchase more for resources at the Market.

❓Do you love multi-use cards?❓

We just LOVE them in deck-builders because they open up so many strategic possibilities. They let you adapt and pivot strategies mid-game, layer combos, and so much more!
