Pottery By Roq

Pottery By Roq I like creating work that both serves a function and is beautiful to touch and see.

I throw most of my pieces using a pottery wheel then I cut them with a wire spring and a cheese cutter. Sometimes a piece will call for more detail and I will add stamps or a different foot. My work is always evolving as new inspirations come to me either in the form of what I see in my daily life or seeing other artist's work.

The Hubby and I did a craft fair over the 4th of July weekend. It was small and not well attended, but I managed so sell somethings. My hubby was so surprised, that he is now interested in my "hobby" and wants to take it more seriously!

Slowly, I have been building up a collection of new work, but as always, I have the ever present issue of finding a gas kiln to use. I am applying to my first show in years, the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens annual sale.

I made my first mug in 5 years. If I posted a picture, I'm sure facebook would censor it for being too ugly. I had not thought that I would need to sort of relearn things. Aren't these things like riding a bike? Once you learn, you never forget? Apparently
not.

Well, it is many moons later since I typed my most resent post; 2020. Just a quick update. I have been away from clay for 5 years, but now, I am getting back into what I love. Life has been too distracting to do what I love, sadly. As they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder, I think that also describes my relationship with clay as well. Getting back to work in clay to me in these times seams almost a rebellious thing to do, all the more reason to start making! Hopefully soon, I will have some pictures to post. Firing is always a challenge.

Greetings all, just wanted to give you an update, as I am sure to many it might seems as though I slipped off the edge of the earth! I have my pottery studio set up finally in Fort Bragg. The issue now is getting electricity to my electric kiln and getting a gas kiln installed. Working a "day job" and all the work required on the Fort Bragg property has keeps us very busy. I miss working in clay, but at least I have my gardens. I am working on growing medicinal herbs to sell locally.

Since December, I have been working at Bountiful Gardens, and sadly, have not made any new work. But, soon I will be. I am engaged in my preparatory ritual of cleaning my studio. Removing the spider webs, washing away the mouse p**p and p*e (yuck). Soon, I will have some fired work to show off. For now, I only have bisque fired pots.

I haven't been around here (FB) in sometime, as a prefer to be actively doing something...sitting at the computer is just to sedimentary and something I see as not being healthy. But, I thought I would spend a moment to leave an update.

The Willits Bypass has really had a negative impact on business in Willits, including the Willits Holiday Fair. We need to work on advertising in a broader way, attracting people to the Fair before they leave on their holiday trips. This way, they can prepare to exit the 101 and visit our little town.

Last day of the Willits Holiday Crafts Fair!!!! Today 10 to 4 pm!!!! Great food, great crafts work and music!

Personally, I have sponge holders, few mugs left, salt cellars,
bowls of different sizes, lidded jars for sugar or candy or loose change, or what ever-else you want to stash in a handsome, hand made jar.

It is that time of year again! My pots will again grace tables of the Willits Holiday Craft Fair. This year, I was n...

It is that time of year again! My pots will again grace tables of the Willits Holiday Craft Fair. This year, I was not able to get a firing done before this great event. This spring I will fire. I will take orders!

I am making work for the upcoming Willits Holiday Fair in December. Lots of mugs. But, also, I am making a new set of dishes for home use.

Now I am free from the gallery, I have finally gone back to making pots. Now, I am not making things with the focus to sell, but making things that make me happy to make. The textured pots I used to make before the gallery. Greater experimentation.

The experience with the gallery has taught me that it is not worth while helping people and being a good citizen if you are miserable doing it and unappreciated for your efforts.

Hi all, I have left the Edgewater Gallery. Moving on to bigger and better things.
