The deadline for families and artists to apply for the program has been extended until Monday, February 28, 2022. Contact Daphne Clark at the email below with questions.
Covid-19 has disrupted the lives of everyone around the world. It has led to the illness of thousands and death of over 1,900 North Dakotans. Over 100 people in Divide, McKenzie, Mountrail and Williams counties alone have passed away. Because of the politics and misinformation surrounding Covid-19 the people we have lost from our communities have been forgotten. Due to restrictions on gatherings during the pandemic many did not have a celebration of life for family and friends to gather and mourn those they lost.
To honor the lives lost, I wanted to do a covid portrait project, the idea is to have artists complete a portrait of someone who was lost to Covid. Artists will receive a $100.00 stipend for each 11in * 14in framed portrait they complete. For each person lost in Divide, McKenzie, Mountrail and Williams Counties one portrait can be done. The family will then receive the artwork after we have a show/memorial service for those lost.
Right now we are looking for both family of people from Divide, McKenzie, Mountrail and Williams counties lost to Covid and artists willing to do portraits regardless of their location. The artists do not have to live in those four counties. People interested in participating can send an email to [email protected] contact Daphne Clark at 701-651-3424, or pick up the registration forms at Long X Visitor's Center (Watfor City), Castle Framing, (Williston), Upper Missouri District Health Unit offices (Crosby and Stanley).
Program made possible by support from Williston Area Visual Artists and a grant from the John and Elaine Andrist Charitable Trust, Castle Framing, Long X Visitor's Center, Upper Missouri District Healthy Unit and numerous developing partnerships.
Covid-19 has disrupted the lives of everyone around the world. The goal of this project is to pair families of those lost to Covid in NW ND with an artist for a portrait of that person and to have a show/memorial to honor those lost.
