RIP David Lynch, 1/20/46-1/16/25

I've been trying to get back into the practice of doing quick sketches in pencil on paper every day. It's helpful to sit and focus on one thing with a pencil for 30 seconds to 10 minutes every day, even the sad stuff.

Woodcut test print of Shelley Duvall, and an homage to her performance as Wendy Torrance in The Shining (and to Wendy's turtleneck sweater).

I carved an additional block after the key block to add some background colors, but then broke my left thumb in August and have not had a chance to do more printing yet. Luckily, I took this picture after doing a quick test print, but shortly before the damage, and was able to memorialize my normal looking thumb and intact fingernail 😬

We made a pilgrimage in April up to Letterpress Things in Chicopee, MA. I was able to meet John Barrett, a legend of the modern letterpress world, who has been running this shop and providing letterpress printing presses, parts, type, and accessories to the community for decades. Unfortunately, due to real estate issues, they have had to move the shop and are working on the significant task of transferring a large (and unimaginably heavy) collection of letterpress materials to a new location.

The main purpose of the trip was to pick up a large 22"x30" bed Reynolds Printasign Duplicator proofing press that I have been working on restoring (seen in the last picture, as picked up in all its, dusty, rusty, disassembled glory). I put in a modest bid in an auction they were having and, to my surprise, won it and then had to figure out the logistics of picking it up and moving it.

I'd also like to give a huge thanks to , who has a similar model Printasign press and who graciously provided detailed measurements, photos, and information that helped plan the move. There isn't much information about these presses available online, but this one is wonderful with a lot of very nice little details and features, and I'm looking forward to sharing some photos and videos of the restoration process and of the press as I use it.

1. Anyone know Pennsylvania's state flower? 2. What would the runner-up be (or what is your other favorite flower)?

This is a close-up process photo from carving a linocut landscape print featuring this flower during its midsummer bloom. Looking forward to warmer weather after getting more snow and colder temperatures here this week.

Hi friends, I've been cycling through an overwhelming collection of various other hobbies in my free time over the last several months, so I've been quieter than usual, but I'm still here and I have more printmaking, art, and letterpress content to share with you soon.

This is a one-off letterpress poster I printed using hand-set antique wood type and metal decorative borders, made for my print shop / art studio / music space.

I hope all of you are well and taking care of yourselves and others.
