Here are the results of my sculpture that I milled last night from a 3D scan of my artwork. It is the first mostly successful result from my own scans of art so I am excited to see the results!! (Dime for scale)

I probably should be in bed now(4am), but this machine is sort of mesmurizing. I am still learning alot. Here is my best attempt so far on the machine with art of mine as a test piece. There has been a bunch of learning moments and my next operations should be better. No bits broken recently. :) The undercuts gave it issues, however, since the y-axis apparently stays stationary (software issue)... definitely happy for the progress though. Unfortunately I have not been having much luck with my resin printer machine so my website has been at a stand still. I am trying to stay positive with this business launching.

Day 5 of cnc expertise: I spent tens of hours this week trying to learn how to program the CNC. I did a couple preprogramed example pieces as well as trying to program myself. I broke another bit (for operation 2 since bit was too long), crashed the spindle into the workpiece, spent over ten hours confused how to get my code from the cam software to work with the controller, and learned how not to program for smoother workflow and quicker upload times. Sometimes success looks like countless hours of failure, but choosing to learn from it.

Day 1 of CNC expertise: Today I started practicing with the cnc. I went to pause the machine mid carve to clean it and it lost its place. This meant I either need to restart the project or learn to edit g-code. Long story short, I broke its first bit trying to edit g-code, like a christening of my machine but with an explosion of shards of metal. 😆 Luckily the machine is safe and I have a couple extra bits of that kind.

Bittersweet day in the studio today! Sad because I have to destroy the mothermold to my "Injustia" piece (hollow bronze on stone) and "Armless Lady" sculpture (solid cast iron), but happy because of it means I get to make room to a new asset in the studio.

I recently purchased a 4-axis cnc to help with my art workflow and package design and was stoked to hear it is coming early. I must throw away the plaster to the mothermold as it will help to make room in my studio apartment for my cnc for both art and business.

Fun Art Fact of the Day: When I originally made the sculpture in wax for casting "Injustia", it had arms and a face and everything. "The armless one..." was an artifact of not having enough money to do a shell mold for a bronze while I was doing my undergrad at FHSU one semester. I was later however able to afford to make a shell mold and pour a bronze for my vision. The following "Injustia" piece was made as a warning to bad leadership in government, playing off the symbolism of Justia (or lady law), but the face and missing upper half was the result of a mold blow out due to poor venting.

The "flaws" (or casting defects) however came together in the the final concept making an even stronger piece and impact when aranged in its final form. The horned like head was due to flashing from the side of the mold when people tried to save it during the pour. This happenstance event even appeared in the wooden scale being splintered and ended up being an overall happy accident when I came to terms with the original message. Prior to casting the bronze piece, I could not make it to the metal pour and had an extreme dread I couldn't wipe away about something happening to the piece at the pour, though praying about it and asking for prayer. I believe it was God preparing me for what was going to happen to the piece. Despite people having to rush to patch a broken mold filled with molten metal, I feel like God made an opportunity for it to become a stronger piece even though I was caught up and stoked to have my first entire human body sculpture in metal prior to the pour, like classical bronzes.

Great news, I got my sales tax certificate!! I am currently trying to conceptualize future ideas as well as products or packages for my website. There is very cool technology (metrology and high resolution additive manufacture), mediums, and processes I have been learning in the mean time as well as designing and creating equipment I will need to make those dreams a reality.

I am getting excited! I am getting close to launching a website soon and I just got the business license yesterday. I am still waiting for my sales tax certificate. I plan to Launch around February or March, fingers crossed everything goes smoothly.

Hello everyone! I need your help! I have been doing some behind the scenes preparations to launch an art business with 3D remastered copies, originals, and art related everyday use products, to name a few potential routes or extensions.

I need your help choosing the main landing page of my website. I have purchased a few domains that redirect to a main domain (currently set as the first option). Which one do you think would be a good website redirect page name to be the main landing page:

(1) CraigCropekStudio.com (harder to remember, a bit long, less anonyminity :/, but potentially good for my personal art career, I already own it, less headache of potentially making an unlawful mistake by forgetting to include my legal name for the sole proprietorship in marketing and business emails and documentation, reduces mistakes for mail sending to my PO box whether addressed with the trade name or my name)

Or

(2) Studio2Cr.com (easier to remember, potentially nice landing page name, a little more anonymity for the sole proprietership, is cool because the "2CR" portion is the first two letters of my first and last name, but may potentially be a legal headache)

Or

(3) 2CrStudio.com (same description as option two)

Or

(4) option four, your choice (an option or name modification you think would be better)

Thank you in advance!
P.S. I plan to launch before the new year:)

I was recently helping my dad move and found a piece of art that I havn't seen since highschool, 15 years ago, and I thought was gone for ever. This is my very first pastel and it played a large part in making me pursue art.

Without soft pastels (and God blessing the work of my hands and mind), I never would have had my first solo exhibition in highschool, never would have got a fine arts books and tuition scholarship at my first college from some of those pieces, never would have had a sculpture assignment that made me decide to get a degree in sculpture, and would never had the essential skill sets for my next dream in innovation.

I hope you enjoy this piece. Life is a journey of many small events leading to large wakes.

Here is the most recent commission from last month that I am eager to now be able to share!

I am now taking on clients for drawings or small busts. Numerous copies of busts can be made in plaster, resin, metal (would need to find a vendor), or through digitally scanning with metrology for licensing digital copies.

This customer celebrated his anniversary with one of my drawings that is now lovingly cherished. Reach out to me if you would love to do the same!
