I was recently commissioned to create a very special retirement gift, and the meaning behind this piece is one of my favorites: as the sun sets on one chapter of life, the sun rises on another chapter of life.

I’ll be the first to admit—I am definitely not an architectural artist. This painting pushed me WAY outside of my usual comfort zone, and it took considerably longer than I anticipated!

But that’s one of my favorite things about creating custom art: sometimes the challenge is exactly what makes the finished piece so meaningful. I loved bringing my client’s vision to life and creating something that represents such a significant milestone.

A few years ago, I started a series that I never quite finished… and I think it’s time to bring it back.

The idea was simple: paint each state while highlighting some of the things it’s best known for.

🌵 Texas was first, featuring a golden sunset, yellow roses, cacti, and an old windmill.

🍊 Florida followed with bright oranges, palm trees, and a warm sunset.

🌌 Alaska came next with forget-me-nots and the Northern Lights.

Looking back, I can definitely see how much I’ve grown as an artist over the years. Part of me wants to start fresh and repaint these first three before continuing the series.

I think it would be such a fun challenge to paint all 50 states—each one inspired by its landscapes, flowers, wildlife, landmarks, or anything that makes it uniquely beautiful.

So now I need your help…
