The Cotton Bottom Diaper Bank is hosting its poker tournament - Deuces for Diapers! Join us on Saturday, April 1st at 6:00 PM for a night of Texas Hold'em, food, drinks, prizes, and fun.

At Rhythm & Hues we gently guide children to happily express themselves through the arts!

Gillian is a seven-year-old girl who cannot sit in school. She continually gets up, gets distracted, flies with thoughts, and doesn't follow lessons. Her teachers worry about her, punish her, scold her, reward the few times that she is attentive, but nothing. Gillian does not know how to sit and cannot be attentive.

When she comes home, her mother punishes her too. So not only does she Gillian have bad grades and punishment at school, but she also suffers from them at home.

One day, Gillian's mother is called to school. The lady, sad as someone waiting for bad news, takes her hand and goes to the interview room. The teachers speak of illness, of an obvious disorder. Maybe it's hyperactivity or maybe she needs a medication.

During the interview an old teacher arrives who knows the little girl. He asks all the adults, mother and colleagues, to follow him into an adjoining room from where she can still be seen. As he leaves, he tells Gillian that they will be back soon and turns on an old radio with music.

As the girl is alone in the room, she immediately gets up and begins to move up and down chasing the music in the air with her feet and her heart. The teacher smiles as the colleagues and the mother look at him between confusion and compassion, as is often done with the old. So he says:

"See? Gillian is not sick, Gillian is a dancer!"

He recommends that her mother take her to a dance class and that her colleagues make her dance from time to time. She attends her first lesson and when she gets home she tells her mother:

"Everyone is like me, no one can sit there!"

In 1981, after a career as a dancer, opening her own dance academy and receiving international recognition for her art, Gillian Lynne became the choreographer of the musical "Cats."

Hopefully all “different” children find adults capable of welcoming them for who they are and not for what they lack.

Long live the differences, the little black sheep and the misunderstood. They are the ones who create beauty in this world.

Many of you do not know the full story behind why I sold the building and shut down Rhythm & Hues. However it’s not what you think.

My treasured Center Director Jamie and I were in a life changing car accident when hit by a drunk driver July 2020, and we were both badly injured.

It’s taken me years to come to terms with what happened, how it’s affected us all and how to talk about it. The head injury I sustained has changed me beyond what I can post. Jamie’s neck and back injuries are still severe as she builds her life in NJ. Miss Dolly couldn’t save it alone.😔

Seeing Rhythm & Hues rebuilt by what felt like the sheer will of our community, who was there to convince me I could & should keep building this brand, IS what makes doing hard things worth it.

I'm just the one who knew R&H needed to exist and stopped at nothing to make sure it did because I’ve built businesses for 23 years but nothing has ever been like this.
The true magic of Rhythm & Hues comes from everyone who walks through our doors and finds happiness and wholeness within our walls. Whether you're celebrating daily moments with family and friends or major milestones, you are the reason why Rhythm & Hues exists and thrives.

YOU ALL ARE THE MAGIC ✨
And we are so beyond grateful.

I may not be the same “Ms.Courtney” and you may not see Jamie and I in the center, be we are still the heart and soul of this brand. And together with you all, we will continue to make a difference locally and to grow this brand all over.

I look forward to your help in building Rhythm & Hues not just for our town, but for all children everywhere. Together let’s fill all the towns with their own happy place with kindness, rainbows, joy, creativity, art, music, and love for us all!

Happy National Craft Month!!! This month we are introducing Messy Memories on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:15 PM and 2:15 PM. Messy Memories is an instructor led art class where kids will do anything from finger painting to slime to tie-dye. The best part? No mess for parents to clean up!

We celebrated this special little guys 3rd birthday as our last birthday party at Rhythm & Hues a year ago today. 😩

At the time we had no intentions of rebuilding the center, let alone down the street a few months later. ❤️
