It has been a busy year and I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your vital support in 2022 whether it has been signing up for my emails to follow my studio news, following me on social media, stopping into one of my events or purchasing original paintings, pillows or prints.
It has been a very full creative year with close to 70 originals, a combination of commissions and my own paintings.
My mind is already buzzing with ideas and directives for new works in 2023 and I look forward to sharing the process and results with you in 2023! 🥳❤️

Living in horse-centric Wellington, Florida, Weatherly Stroh is invigorated by the ever-present dressage, show jumping and polo. Her paintings of sport horses are infused with power and motion, capturing the controlled elegance of equine athletes. Most recently, one of her paintings was chosen as the cover art for Wellington’s 2021 Winter Equestrian Festival. She also paints beautiful landscapes with the vibrant light and natural beauty of Florida, while also delighting in animal portraiture and is well-known for her ability to capture her subjects’ personalities on canvas. A passionate advocate for all animals, she donates a portion of the proceeds from her work to a variety of animal welfare and land preservation organizations.
On December 8, Brooke USA will join with Weatherly and Susie Stroh for a wonderful night at the Studio. The newest paintings and sculptures will be on display, and the night will benefit Brooke USA with the unveiling of a new donkey sculpture, and Brooke USA’s first-ever Holiday Cards, featuring a design by Weatherly.

Why Grey horses?
Grey horses have always meant something significant to me. My first show pony, Lithgow Advantage, was a grey gelding who I only had for a year before I outgrew him. Although the time with him was short, most horse people can agree that your first pony will forever leave a significant impact on you. My mother’s two hunters, now retired on her farm, were also two beautiful grey geldings. All of these horses, all with a significant impact on me, were a huge inspiration for this collection. The way that the light perfectly hits its dapples and the white-ish strands of its mane. There is a richness, yet a simplicity to greys that I will forever love to capture.

For those of you that have followed my painting journey over the years, you have heard about my challenges with plein air painting - changing light, windy conditions, bugs, heat, cold, etc. - it’s all part of the adventure of painting outside. As with anytime we venture beyond our comfort zone, frustrations can arise, but it is also incredibly gratifying when a painting comes together on site and I am able to capture a moment in time and hopefully transport my viewer in with me. Regardless of a painting’s success, plein air painting is a tremendously valuable practice of observation and presence that I try bring back with me into my studio. And, really, for me, any chance to be outdoors in a beautiful setting while painting is the perfect escape from the stresses and distractions of everyday life.

These plein air paintings are getting packed up and heading to the States. 6 days, 13 paintings…unfortunately my trip was cut a bit short, but at least I made the most of my time in Tuscany. Thank you and .capitoni for an amazing week!

Here’s the story behind this piece, “Reaching Zebra”Ziggy is a mountain zebra who lives here in Wellington, Florida. I had the pleasure of hanging out with him and being able to photograph him. And as you can see, he was the biggest inspiration for this newest addition in my Zebra collection.

When I was 11, my father gave me a plein air paint box that had belonged to my great great uncle, Gari Melchers, a globally acclaimed American Impressionist painter. This gift fired my lifelong enthusiasm for painting in oil. 🎨

My Bob Ross video for today. I need to work on my video skills, lol... One of my favorite stages of painting is the final coat of varnish. Not only does it seal and protect the surface of the painting, it also brings the colors back to life as they can look dull at times once they dry. I’ll try to capture this effect better next time! Here I’m using a retouch varnish from #gamblin which I can remove later in case I need to go back into the painting and rework it at a later time. It gives it a slight gloss finish once it’s dry and is ready for framing! Check out my website (link in my bio) for more information on this painting or others!
