Announcing "Impressions" Guest Artist

Cara was raised in Florida and grew up in a house full of art. At an early age, she was encouraged to pursue her talents in art and develop her own styles. Living with an artist as a father, she was able to witness and join in her father’s experiments and learn about different colors, techniques, and skills. While her father’s art was her biggest influence, she was exposed to all types of creative work and artists through museums, exhibitions, and traveling around the world. Cara graduated with a Master of Architecture from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2008.  While in school, she was able to engage and expand her curiosity and experimented in many other art forms, such as Metals & Jewelry, Photography, and Electronic Design, all the while continuing her passion for painting. After working in the architecture world for a few years, she was able to experience a new world in design. Today, her art has become an accumulation of her past experiences and reflection of her bubbly personality and creative imagination.

Announcing "Impressions" Guest Artist:

Diana Martin is a self-taught artist who’s career began over 40 years ago. She has applied her talent to countless artistic endeavors which include painting, sculpture, jewelry, clothing design, costume and set design, and custom airbrush. Announcing "Impressions" Artist

Color is what grabs me when I enter my studio, and it is the first thing I consider when starting a new painting. I use a variety of media in my work and am always trying new ones. Before I paint, I often start with gestural drawing using graphite and colorful pastels or brushing washes of color across the canvas with acrylic inks. I love how this first layer can blend with the paint and create variations of color and translucent layers.

Motivated by color, my goal is to create work that is uplifting and joyful in its reflection of nature.

Elizabeth Bernheisel is a Washington DC native now living in Delray Beach, FL. Expressive brushstrokes and vibrant colors are a dominating feature of her work.

Announcing "Impressions" Artist

Sarah explores the realm of abstract art and embraces the freedom of non-representational painting. In these newly forming series the canvas is an experimental playground for her creativity, color moods, and the idea of leaning into the simple motions of both paint and painter that is sealed in time as her medium dries.

Announcing "Impressions" Artist

Kyle specializes in contemporary portraits of athletes, musicians, historical figures, and cultural icons. He is fascinated by how their stories and accomplishments evoke such strong emotional responses in others. Each painting begins with a non-objective background of bold brushstrokes, drips, splatters, and polka dots. This foundation of energy and visual texture adds character to the shadows and reflections on the subject. Drawing from traditional portraiture, he incorporates discreet details and symbolism to further enhance the story and create more than meets the eye.

Announcing "Impressions" Guest Artist:

I feel blessed to have been given the gift of creativity and so I spend my days pouring over the process. My work presents a unique set of challenges both personally and professionally, which has given me the opportunity to grow and explore. I create my art to stir up a visceral reaction in myself and the viewer, followed by moments of introspection and hopefully discussion.

Introducing "Impressions" Artist:

From her earliest memories Maureen Fulgenzi concentrated her efforts in becoming an Artist. After 4yrs at School of Visual Arts in NYC studying fashion illustration & advertising, Maureen landed a freelance position at Sassoon Jeans and designed their first marketing poster. She then worked as a sketch artist for Fairfield publications and illustrating for TOBY fashion reports. In thle late 70s, with her talents & pioneering spirit, she launched a new hand painted fabric & silk trend that sprung onto NY couture scene that was quickly picked up by the "A"-list department stores & boutiques nationwide. Maureen brought both her technical skills & innate color sense to custom create and apply silk dyes to fine fabrics and created a standardized and branded design trademark in the fashion industry. During this time Mary McFadden chose one of Fulgenzi's creations called "Windrift" that became the most popular and longest selling designer bedding collection that the Martex Corporation had produced. Being in high demand for her design skills & innovative thinking Fulgenzi was contracted to design prints for a men’s line of shirts for Designer, Diane Von Furstenberg & later for her printed dress collection, and had a successful career producing a line of clothing with hand-painted fabrics, forming Horito/Fulgenzi designs. The company's list notable clients, such as Mary Tyler Moore, Betty White, Cecily Tyson, and were sold in department stores, catalogs & boutiques nationwide. Their designs created a fashion trend that was copied by other companies & spurred Maureen forward to create new ideas. In the early 90's Fulgenzi left the fashion business to pursue her own, long-smoldering desire to become a recognized Fine Artist. She left the city to immerse herself in creating a fine-art portfolio, working in the Hamptons and later Italy and traveling through Europe, gaining new sources of inspiration and sophistication in her work. Color, with its wealth of possibilities, combined with a form of corresponding vibration, expresses Fulgenzi's inner need to offer a contemplative ground to the spectator.

Announcing "Impressions" Guest Artist:

I have been painting and collaging using fabric, lace, buttons and found objects since I was a small boy. Painting with white shoe polish on brown shopping bag, instead of glue, my grandmother and the sweatshop girls across the alley, taught me how to sew. Today, I can make my own lace, use acrylic oils pencils and markers, 24k Gold Leaf and Palladium, adding fabric, lace, novelty and found objects. Not unlike today, the difference is a steady hand and the use of digital.

Over the  past 40+ years I have been very fortunate to have great teachers and mentors help me hone my skills, but it would take years of trial and error to find my voice. My work may appear abstract, but I use plastic 3-D consideration to create motion images and forms - like a deck of cards are continually shuffled and overlapped - to give each painting their particular mood. Like poems, I tell my stories, some work taking years to complete.

Using the classic “Golden Ratio,” I am very interested in the dimensions and size of each work and the surface of the work itself. A big consideration is the use of white light and shadow. In regards to color shape and design, I reference Art History, Chiaroscuro, Islamic, and Persian art. Utilizing linear elements in biunique ways, I am continually discovering, taking chances and challenging myself.

Meet Spotlight Artist: Autumn

Autumn Casey, born in West Palm Beach, Florida, is an artist whose work revolves around objects—the stories they tell and the characters they become. Her shapeshifting practice includes sculpture, video, performance, music, and poetry. Inspired by maintenance art and the borders between trash and coveted commodities, Casey draws from personal history, pop and underground culture. Her work channels the beauty found in memories, exploring the function of nostalgia. In 2019, Casey started designing sculptural lights, inspired equally by Tiffany and thrift store finds, pushing her use of camp and kitsch into one-of-a-kind, functional artworks. Casey’s work has been shown at the Peréz Art Museum, Miami; Vox Populi, Philadelphia, PA; and in many other venues. She’s completed residencies at Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Colorado and La Sierra Artist Residency in Santa Marta, Colombia. In 2022, she received a public art commission for MoCA, North Miami, to create a pair of sculptures modeled on her parents (but imagined as swans). Casey lives and works in Miami, Florida.

Meet Spotlight Artist: Zoe

Zoe Alexa is a multimedia artist based in South Florida. She received her BFA in Sculpture from the California College of the Arts in 2013, and is a maker of playfully-odd sculptures. Zoe informs her practice through previous work in prosthetic movie makeup, fabrication and upholstery. She recently completed a residency at Treats Studios in North Carolina making soft wall sculptures titled Notions.

Zoe creates isolated figures that reflect various degrees of evolution and playful expansion. Through a collection of amoebic shapes, she looks to amplify their imagined features with humorous size and vivid colors. By creating something so other, yet very similar to our own microscopic making, her work is dependent on envisioning these peculiar forms taking an active role in our lives.

Her current body of work focuses on structures dubbed Pickles, which come in various sizes, each one being a mirror and evolution of each other. These sculptures present themselves by welcoming the viewer to step a little closer- to investigate our curious existence as well as the things we allow into our own space and realm.

Meet Spotlight Artist: Renee

As a process-based artist inspired by macro and micro visions of Earth’s surface, Phillips explores the layering of color, and manipulation of paint, to achieve sculpturallike results that droop, ripple, crack and pool off of the surface. Using color as the raw material, she navigates the line between painting and sculpture.

The daughter of a scientist and a lover of nature, Renee grew up between the South Florida beaches and the Colorado mountains and from a young age, learned through hands on exploration of her environment. She received her BA in Fine Art from the University of Miami, FL, and continued her art education at the University of Paris, France, and the School of Visual Arts in NYC.

Recent shows internationally include the DeJi Museum, China and Kunstwerk Gallerie Berlin, Germany; national shows include the Coral Springs Art Museum, Soho House West Hollywood, CA, Aqua Art Miami, Pen & Brush NYC, and Muriel Guepin Gallery NYC. Phillips is currently an Artist in Residence at the Arts Warehouse in Delray Beach, FL.

Meet Spotlight Artist: Molly

Molly Aubry, born in Denver, Colorado, lives and works in West Palm Beach, Florida. Aubry received her BFA from the University of Florida in 2008 and her MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2018. Her work explores entangled perceptual worlds through the matrix of print media. Mining the tension between organic materials and digital processes, the work imagines artifacts from a world in which the natural and artificial are inextricably linked. Recent exhibitions include “Dark Luminosity,” a solo exhibition at the Cultural Council for Palm Beach, “NightVisions” at the Coconino Center for the Arts in Tuscon, AZ, “Strange Paradise: A Window into Surrealism” at the Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center in Solomons, MD, and “Intimacy” at Science Gallery of Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. In 2022, she created a public art installation, “Bioluminescent Portals,” commissioned by Art in Public Places for Miami-Dade County. In 2020, Aubry’s work was featured in The Mid America Print Council Journal’s issue "New Eyes" on contemporary printmaking. Aubry was awarded a Visiting Artist Grant from the U.S. Department of State in Moldova, and has been awarded fellowships for residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, Ragdale Foundation, Shoals Marine Laboratory, and Playa.

Meet Spotlight Artist: Michelle

Michelle A M Miller draws beauty out of waste. Influenced by her experiences in nature and her family’s environmental testing laboratory, she transforms discarded materials and inspiration from the natural world, chemistry, philosophy, physics, and ancient wisdom into monochromatic meditations that skirt ideas of entanglement and interconnectedness but hint at something more. Her creative work spans drawing, bookmaking, sculpture, painting, printmaking, installation, and public art. Miller’s complex imagery is simultaneously cosmic and quantum, ancient and futuristic. She has been awarded residencies at Women’s Studio Workshop, Atlantic Center for the Arts, and IS Projects and is the recipient of a grant from the Puffin Foundation. Her work has been presented at CODEX, E/AB, NADA Miami, and she has recently participated in group exhibitions at the Coral Springs Museum of Art and the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood. Her work is held in collections at the University of Miami and the Jaffe Center for Book Arts in addition to private collections throughout the US. Miller received her BFA in Studio Art from Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, and her BA in Art History from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. She lives and works in West Palm Beach, Florida. Miller is currently the book artist in residence at Women's Studio Workshop in New York, where she is working on her next project entitled, Erebid/Materia.

Lauren Bertelson is an artist from Boulder, Colorado currently based in Palm Beach, Florida, who uses photography and domestic craft to explore themes of domesticity, femininity, labor, and the multigenerational transfer of these concepts. Her work has been exhibited at Light Work, Colorado Photographic Arts Center, Studio 1608, the Biblio Gallery and the Schine Student Center at Syracuse University. She is a recipient of a SOURCE Grant for the spring of 2022 to pursue her most recent body of work, Like Mother, Like Daughter. Lauren has a BFA in Art Photography from Syracuse University. Past projects include a crochet tapestry, Eighty Seasons: a Summary, that visually represents the relationships that have been an integral part of her life, as well as a series of images As the Shadows Lengthen, that explore her 8-month bout with chronic insomnia.

Meet Spotlight Guest Artist: Nuné

I'm an interdisciplinary artist who enjoys working in any media. I choose the medium that I think will best express the idea I'm trying to convey. The areas I'm interested in cross between abstract, surrealism symbolism, minimalism, & expressionism. I love to travel, try new things, and be exposed to unfamiliar places and ideas. All of my experiences, from travel or simply from the process of living, find a place into my work, either consciously or unconsciously. I believe art-making is a form of communication, and it's the best language that I know. My father was a sculptor, and my entire family is artistic. They helped me learn to navigate life in an unusual way: to live "an artist's life." I hope that my art can help people better understand the challenges that humanity faces, and that it helps people reflect and talk about timeless and philosophical concepts like communication, kindness, and understanding the impact of the digital age on human relationships. I hope that my art leaves people feeling better connected to their surroundings, from the local to the universal.

Meet Spotlight artist: Isabel

I'm a multidisciplinary artist who uses painting, printmaking, installation, mosaic, and my digital media processes to make art. My work and research have focused on the changing landscape, environmental awareness, and the more recent effects of globalization. In the early days of life on Earth, algae and bacteria formed a lichen, a primal form of life that still grows on most natural surfaces.

With this series called "Mined," I investigate brushless painting processes and a mixture of paints applied repeatedly to allow various marks and crusts to randomly appear, as happens with the geology of terrains of surprising uniqueness and designs. Even the detachment of some pigments is visible as if it were constantly changing, aspects I enjoy. Time is a crucial ingredient for this texture to appear on the surface of my canvas, like lichen.

I am a Brazilian-American artist living in Florida and São Paulo. I have a BS in Industrial Design from the Arts Foundation Armando Alvares Penteado in São Paulo and an MFA from Florida Atlantic University, FL.
