WHAT A DAY and last few days!! First so thankful for God who has made everything happen for my students :-).
All of my students who applied for Early Action to PARSON's School of Design ACCEPTED with over $280,000 in merit scholarships!
All my EA students who applied to Pratt were accepted with over $260,000 in merit scholarships!
All of my students who applied to SAIC for EA who have received merit (SAIC physically mails the scholarship awards ) have earned over $340,000 in merit!!!!!!!! I'm still waiting for some to get their MAIL!
Currently, merit scholarships for my students are adding up to close to $4 million and we still have more announcements to come in for regular admission and additional EA applications.

For parents of middle school students: EXCELLENT GRADES + EXTRA CURRICULAR activities + OUTSTANDING art portfolios = $$$$$$$$. The formula is simple. As my husband tells our nieces " Do your homework, study, be active in things you are passionate about so that you can earn merit scholarships for college. "

When your students take your instruction and create a fabulous illustration!!!
This is the first time Olivia E gr 11 ever drew with colored pencil!!! I truly think this medium is my favorite one to teach!
She is biracial and wanted to combine her two different backgrounds that she yearns to know more about but is often left confused. This piece also represents her growing older while trying to learn where she’s from for her Welsh side and her African American side. She researched quilts and patterns from both backgrounds that cover her in who she physically is while she yearns to understand her backgrounds at a deeper level.

Yes this is what we discuss as I teach them how to use mediums and in this case how to draw with colored pencils.

Yes the portfolio is incredibly important to the art school
application for college but grades matter too.

Schools like Scad offer two forks of merit money : Academic (for grades in high school) and Achievement (for the majority and excellence in the portfolio). Check out our post about grades and if you know a junior in high school or a parent of one share this information ❤️

🎓 🎓 🎓 It really is important to get good grades! 🎓 🎓 🎓 - https://mailchi.mp/5ff87d151847/get-good-grades The habits you build in high school will carry through to college, start early to build these strong routines for a lifetime of success.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about teaching a student over multiple years. I met Cassie when she was an 8th grader in Middle School Art. Since then she’s taken Drawing, Painting 1, Painting Honors and now she’s in Drawing Honors. Cassie is now a Senior!!!

Her challenge was to take Goodwin China dishes, create a still life that created a dynamic composition with strong highlights, cast shadows, depth for a drawing in soft pastel. Soft pastel feels like chalk, creamy eye shadow like chalk.

I am in awe of this study and more importantly excited for this young woman! She lit UP today excited to share her finished work! Her smile.... priceless ❤️ If you’re at TKA give her a huge ‘air hug’ of congratulations on this piece! WOW! 17 years old!
