Some Fun Facts about Sleepy Hollow!

🖋️Washington Irving based the character Ichabod Crane off two real people: a soldier he met in the War of 1812 who bore that name, and his friend, Jesse Merwin, who shared the character's behavior and manner.

🗺️ As a teenager, Irving stayed in Tarrytown, NY where he encountered the local Dutch population and their legends and folklore. In 1996, Tarrytown officially renamed itself Sleepy Hollow.

🪦The name Katrina Van Tassel came from an old headstone in the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Today, Washington Irving is also buried there.

🎃There is an old German legend of a Headless Horseman. This same tale influenced the local Dutch population as well. The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow was based on a Hessian solider who was beheaded during the American Revolution.

Teens & Young Adults!

There are some GREAT roles for you in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Be sure to come out to the Geneva Academy Choir room on August 31 at 4:30 to audition. No need to prepare anything - just be ready for cold reads and movement exercises. Can't make it then? Message us to send in a video audition!

We meet Mondays & Wednesday, 4:30-6:00, adding Fridays in mid-September. The show plays October 23-24.

Teen Roles:

* Ichabod Crane: The tall, lanky, officious new School and Singing Master of Sleepy Hollow. He sets his sights on wealthy Katrina van Tassel, or rather, her fortune, setting him on the wrong side of the town rapscallion, Brom Bones.

*Katrina Van Tassel: The only daughter for the wealthy farmer, Baltus Van Tassel. She is known to play the coquette and takes great sport in pitting her suitors against one another, especially Brom and Ichabod.

*Brom Bones: Brom is the strong, daring, and mischievous young farm boy and horseman. In an act of petty revenge, he decides to play a trick on the Schoolmaster in the from of the town’s local legend, the Headless Hessian, where he may find more than he bargained from.

*Diedrich Knickerbocker: This well-loved fictional author from Washington Irving’s first novel provides a foil for Crane. Knickerbocker comes Sleepy Hollow at the same time as he gathers information for his new book, A History of New York.

*Brom's Gang - Kasper, Bastien, & Bart: These young men are rowdy, young farm hands who have grown up in Sleepy Hollow. All are up for mischief, flirting with the ladies, or playing tricks on a certain schoolmaster.

*Wilhelmina & Gretchen: These young ladies are Katrina’s very dear friends. A little frivolous and flighty, they are often seen in her company anxiously awaiting the Van Tassels Halloween Dance.

The Golden Apples Drama Club is geared toward people who may not have the time to commit to a full production schedule, but still want to be a part of a full production. We only meet 2-3 times a week until production week! Message us for more details.

The Golden Apples may be on hiatus right now, but you can still see some of our members around the community!

Molly Higginbotham is currently featured in Disney's Dare to Dream at SYAA. Director Amy Higginbotham designed the costumes for the production as well. Dare to Dream is a fast paced, fun Disney musical review that features some of your favorite Disney songs, from the classics to the new numbers. It's perfect for the younger theatre patrons. The show has its final weekend this Saturday at 2:00 and this Sunday 3:00. You can get tickets at SYAA online.com.

Also Consulting Director Megan Wilkins is currently directing the production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying at the Status's Mainstage. It will open next month and is going to be very fun as well!
