Hey ya'll, it's your resident weather nerd friend with an update on the tropics.
Most of what everyone is seeing is hyped up headlines that are akin to : "Oh God! Another hurricane is coming! Will it ever end?" They are exactly what I called them: hyped up headlines. Clickbait. What have you.
All of the models I have looked at from NWS, NHC, NOAA, and local stations have Kirk staying out in the Atlantic as a fish storm and coming nowhere near the U.S. coastline. The area of disturbance in the Caribbean might turn into something, but if it does, it will NOT be as strong as Helene just was. It may be a tropical storm, possibly CAT 1 hurricane...IF it forms. They just downgraded the chance of formation a couple of hours ago. Helene brought up a lot of cooler water from deep in the Gulf, so that will help inhibit growth of any storms any time soon.
As the great Dennis Phillips says: RULE #7: Do not panic. Panic does nothing for you except ruin your day. Be prepared, yes. But don't let the anxiety win ya'll. We just went through some terrible, awful things with Helene. But we can't let that cause us fear for the future. We need to keep our heads straight, help each other out, and show lots of love to our neighbors and fellow Floridians, Georgians, Tennesseeans, Carolinians, and Kentuckians.
God bless, and let's get through this together!
