SUP the South Sunday Mini SUP Sessions are back!"

We're so excited for all the rain that has hit the area, it's allowing us to bring back a couple weeks of SUP the South Sundays in Waynesboro, starting this Sunday, July 19th!

Each mini SUP session is about an hour, you get a board, paddle, life jacket, and a quick mini SUP lesson from our skilled instructor, then you are free to paddle around for the next hour exploring the banks of the South at Rife Park, located across the bridge near the Waynesboro YMCA

We've added this year, 3 Family Time Slots as well (kids not required) that allows for a little bit of extra time before and after to help the little ones get ready and on the river for a fun hour of paddling, swimming, jumping, and water blasters!

Each session can accommodate 4 paddlers, ride-a-long kids must ride with a adult paddler, no kids allowed during non-family slots.

Each session is $30 for adults with kids, or $20 for adults only.

*Age minimum is 4 years old up to 11.

We highly recommend booking in advance because SUP the south sessions often book up. Families must book in advance, walk-ups are welcome if slots are available.

Family Time Slots (Families not required - 4 adults, 4 ride along kids - Age minimum 4 years old)
- 9:30 - 10:45 am
- 11:00 - 12:15 pm
- 4:30 - 5:30 pm (late afternoon)

12 & UP ONLY
- 12:45 - 1:45 pm
- 2:00 - 3:00 pm
- 3:15 - 4:15 pm

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘙𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘶𝘴—and caring for it is a community effort.

Pictured here is 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝘂𝗰𝗸, 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁, helping clean the South River. It's a reminder that the South River doesn't stay beautiful by accident—it takes a community of people committed to caring for it.

Augusta County Parks & Recreation is proud to provide 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿, giving residents and visitors places to paddle, fish, float, and experience one of our area's greatest natural resources. One of those access points is located in Dooms Crossing, the other is located at 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸, where we'll be hosting 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿, 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟱.

We're also grateful for partners like the 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, Riverfest, Friends of the Middle River and the many volunteers and conservation advocates who work year-round to promote healthy rivers through education, stewardship, and hands-on projects. Their efforts help ensure that all rivers in Augusta County remain a place where our community can gather, recreate, and connect with nature.
When you join us for Summer Nights on the South River, we hope you'll do more than enjoy an evening on the water. We hope you'll discover what makes the South River so special—and why it's worth protecting.

Whether you're launching a kayak, casting a fishing line, or simply enjoying the view, remember that stewardship starts with each of us. Pack out what you pack in, respect wildlife, and leave the river just a little better than you found it.
Together, we can keep the South River healthy, beautiful, and accessible for generations to come.

Our non-profit community event’s mission is to promote involvement in watershed stewardship of the South Fork Shenandoah River. Your support makes if possible to reach more students, families, visitors and residents that ever before and to keep the event free to the public.

In addition to the Riverfest festival itself, Riverfest also funds “Kid’s Day on the River”, which is a day-long educational opportunity for 200 seventh grade students in Waynesboro. This typically takes place two days prior to Riverfest. Additionally, we support other environmental educational and conservation opportunities throughout the year: assisting with South River Clean-Up efforts, providing Nature Camp and Chesapeake Bay youth scholarships, and supporting local classrooms.

Fun Fact: More than 11,000 ducks have been sold since the first duck race! This is one of our favorite Riverfest Traditions!
