Had to make some room for this next project! A 10’ long sycamore slab, that’s over 2.5” thick. This will fit the clients space perfectly and should be a real stunner when it’s done! So grateful for this opportunity.
Also, it’s a fun challenge to figure out how to move this around on your own 😅

Giving some of my antiques some love and protection. I love most all old things but especially tools. I’ve had these for quite a while. My family had them for as long as I can remember. An ancient boot jack, auger drill, and possibly my favorite, the wagon jack, are just a few that I have. Gave one of my mallets another coat with the excess.
tung oil is my go to for a lot of things like this.

Debated on posting this at all and am now doing so with the family’s blessing

Creating this was an experience that deeply affected me. The weight and significance of what was taking shape was tangible throughout the process. Working slow, methodically, and quietly. Trying to make a vessel worthy of the man that would rest in it.

This is one of the main reasons I fell in love with woodworking. To better serve my people and my community, and to do work that really matters.

Keeping it simple and beautiful with a mitered box made of curly maple. Top and bottom panels, as well as the miter splines, are made from angelique. A brass plate and hardware finish it off. While a treatment of polymerized tung oil brings out the curls in the grain and adds great protection.

The mobile miter station is complete! Take a speed run with me through the whole build.
Inspired by design, and customized to what I wanted. It has a 4’ working area that can expand up to almost 12’ of usable length with the lockable extensions.
Both sides feature 3’ of T track with a slide stop. And the extensions have a stop that can also flip up for repeatable cuts on longer pieces.
The heart of this station is a beastly 12” hitachi forward sliding, dual compound miter saw that I gave some tlc to. I added a dust collection upgrade and power activated switch to turn the vacuum on. Also banged out an Angelique zero clearance insert, replaced a bushing, repaired a stripped hole with a heli-coil, and tracked down some auxiliary fences for it.
Finished it off with some shelving and cabinet doors with some soft close hinges.

Finally gave it all a quick coat of furniture oil

This thing has every feature I could dream up of needing and She’s ready to go to work!

Installed the dust collection upgrade in the old hitachi 12” beast and saw a massive improvement! Really impressed with how effective it is on its own.

This was a very rewarding commission for someone who was looking for a quality custom rocking horse to be gifted to his niece.
It mainly consists of pine with some stained pieces of course.
I used cherry for the saddle and I think the color and contrast is perfect!
Also ended up making a white oak dowel for the handlebar.
Finished in a food safe hard wax oil in case the little ones get hungry 😉
