I never told my husband that I was the quiet multi-millionaire who owned the company he was celebrating that night. To him, I was just his âtired and unattractiveâ wifeâthe one who had âruined her bodyâ after giving birth to twins. At his promotion gala, I stood there holding our babies when he pushed me toward the exit.
âYour face looks swollen. Youâre ruining the image. Just go,â he muttered.
I didnât cry.
I didnât argue.
I walked out of the partyâand out of his life.
Hours later, I received his message:
The bank blocked my cards. Why canât I get into the house?
âWhat is wrong with you?â Liam snapped, gripping my arm as he pulled me toward the dim hallway near the service exit. The faint smell from outside mixed with the expensive perfume drifting in from the ballroom.
âHe spit up, Liam,â I said quietly, trying to stay composed. âHeâs a baby. You could help instead of just standing there watchingâŠâ
âHelp you?â he let out a short laugh, looking at me with clear irritation. âIâm the CEO, Ava. I donât deal with that. Thatâs your responsibility. And clearly, youâre not handling it well.â
He reached up and tugged lightly at a strand of my hair.
âLook at Chloe from marketing,â he added coldly. âShe had a baby last year and already looks perfectârunning marathons, back in shape, polished. She knows how to take care of herself. And you? Four months later and you still look⊠worn out.â
I felt something tighten in my chest, but I stayed steady.
âIâm taking care of two newborns alone, Liam. I have no support. No time to recover. I donât haveââ
âThatâs not my concern,â he cut in sharply. âOr maybe itâs just lack of discipline. You smell like milk, your dress barely fits, and youâre embarrassing me. Iâm building something important here. Iâm trying to impress the Owner, and youâre standing here reminding me of every mistake Iâve made.â
He gestured toward the back exit.
âGo home. Now. And donât let anyone see you next to me again. Youâre a distraction, Ava. Completely useless.â
Something inside me went completely still.
I looked at himâthe man I once loved. The man I had supported, guided, and quietly opened doors for without ever asking for recognition.
He had no idea that the Owner he was so desperate to impressâthe one whose approval he fearedâwas standing right in front of him.
The very woman he had just dismissed.
âGo home?â I asked softly.
âYes. Leave,â he said impatiently. âUse the back exit. Donât ruin the main entrance.â
I didnât cry.
I pushed the stroller out into the cold nightâbut I didnât go to the house Liam believed was his.
Instead, I drove to the hotel I owned.
I settled the twins, then opened my laptop.
While Liam raised a glass in that ballroom, celebrating a future he thought was secure, I opened my home system.
Main door access: Updated.
User âLiamâ: Removed.
Next, I opened the car app.
Remote access: Revoked.
Finally, I logged into the internal HR system of Vertex Dynamics.
I scrolled down to:
