NOT YOUR ORDINARY MUSIC PERFORMANCE, but a live, interactive vocal music and theatrical performance show, with superb piano, bass and percussion accompaniment. Developed over conversation and coffee, by three vocalist friends: Audrey Shakir, Renée Collins Georges and Theresa Sise; the concept of THREE CHAIRS, stems from the diversity and colorful life stories of the three women o

f different ages, voices and musical backgrounds. THREE CHAIRS takes the audience (viewer/listener) on A JOURNEY THROUGH SONG. During the 90-min performance, hear and see different music expressions, carefully woven through story and song, by three accomplished vocalist who share perspectives on life, love, mystery, tragedy and comedy, as they see it through music, which is the core of their being; the essence of their soul.

It’s heavy and deep to lose our friend and colleague. Audrey Shakir reigned supreme in 3 chairs, a genius instigating our raucus music. While most vocalists performed, we played, like children tumbling down a soft grassy hill. I lost track of how many perfect moments we had when we gathered. In all of them Audrey was making us belly laugh. Renée would be ploting a breathtaking vision of a show concept, then Audrey would have an epiphany at the piano and make an old tune new again with a hip arrangement, cheering us on to take it to the edge. I’ve never known someone so keen on celebrating vocal differences. It was like she was constantly arranging music in her head for a trumpet, sax and flute and knew how gorgeous each distinct instrument would sound together. I swear she wrote chords to capture the sympathetic vibrations of our vibratos.

We spent the majority of the time cackling and belly laughing till we hurt. Music and life highs and lows intermingled till we breathed peace through it all. I evolved. I imprinted like a baby duck and will never be the same. I’m so grateful for these two women who held out their hand and lifted me up from gawkish to confident. May we all remain open to the joy Audrey will pass our way from where she is now, and may we continue to treat jazz and life as an achingly beautiful experience of being fully in the present moment until we return to the tonic chord.
