Krasnyl Lyman fell today to Russia for more control of Donbas and Donetsk. It increasingly looks difficult for Ukraine to push out the Russian invaders. The Italian peace proposal makes more sense. The West should consider Italy's ceasefire bid before it's too late.

NOW, IT'S THE ERIE CANAL
The Engineering Marvel Joins The Columbus Monument in a Growing List of Condemnation by Syracuse Mayor, Ben Walsh
“… they say we all lived happily ever after, and we all know that was far from the case."

Mayor Ben Walsh conveyed a negative assessment of the Erie Canal when he spoke at a recent event in Syracuse.

"This exhibit makes us think even more about I-81 and the Erie Canal, and the ripple effects they left in our community to this day," said Mayor Walsh. "We all know the good stuff, but that isn't always the full story. I applaud and appreciate the Canal Museum for telling the story of these projects in Syracuse from different perspectives.”

“… they say we all lived happily ever after, and we all know that was far from the case.”

Considered by many historians as one of the great achievements of American engineering, the Erie Canal linked the thriving commercial harbor of New York to the burgeoning farms and factories of the Midwest. The project was completed in 1821 to form a 363 mile waterway for barges and boats to transport raw material and finished goods from West to East. The Erie Canal provided a blueprint for great canals to come such as the Suez Canal and Panama Canal.

In a digital press release by the Columbus Monument Corporation, an organization now suing to save the Columbus Monument from being removed by Mayor Walsh, the negative spin of alternative history by the mayor was specifically identified.

"Instead of focusing on the miraculous achievement of building the Eric Canal," states the press release, "and how it enabled trade from Europe through New York City to the mid-west, Walsh instead chose to focus on the negative. Sound familiar?"

The memo showed a taped interview of Mayor Walsh denouncing the profound discoveries of Christopher Columbus.

"The Columbus Monument Corp has offered to work with the City to display other stories and perspectives around the Columbus Monument. But Walsh has ignored us, instead USING YOUR TAX DOLLARS in an attempt to destroy it."

"All history is messy. But where would Syracuse be without the Route 81, the Erie Canal, and the immigrants who helped to build it at the turn of the century?"

"Tell Mayor Walsh to apply the same standards to all of Syracuse’s important history, and end his attempt to destroy the historic Columbus Monument."

We mourn the passing of Ray Liotta. Today, his publicist confirmed the actor died in his sleep while on shooting location in the Dominican Republic for a new film. Mr. Liotta was born in Newark in 1954, only to be abandoned at an orphanage, but adopted, at six months old, by Mary and Alfred Liotta. Although a star of many films, Mr. Liotta was most famous for playing mobster Henry Hill in the Martin Scorsese film, "Goodfellas." May he rest in peace.

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the tragic murder of Giovanni Falcone. The prosecutor and magistrate of Sicily who spearheaded a serious investigation into La Cosa Nostra. The organized crime syndicate suffered a serious blow when Mr. Falcone developed a racketeering case to convict many Mafia leaders and members. Mr. Falcone, his wife Francesca Morvillo and police officers Rocco Dicillo, Antonio Montinaro and Vito Schifani were killed when their cars drove from the airport over a section of road where a bomb was detonated.

AUSTRALIA ELECTS ANTHONY ALBANESE, FIRST PRIME MINISTER OF ITALIAN DESCENT
First Non-English Celtic to Lead the Country
- His Father is from Barletta Province, Apulia

Australians have elected their first prime minister of Italian descent, Anthony Albanese. Leader of the Labor Party, Mr. Albanese challenged the incumbent Scott Morrison to win a decisive electoral victory. Australia is a country with 1 million residents of Italian descent, almost five percent of the total population. Mr. Albanese grew up without knowing his father, Carlo. In fact, he was told, as a boy, that his father had died. After he was elected a member of parliament in 1996, he utilized contacts to track down his paternal line. Carlo was living in Barletta, in the Apulia region. Mr. Albanese was able to make contact with Carlo to meet him in Italy. Pictured is Australia's newly elected prime minister, Anthony Albanese, a photo of Carlo as a steward for TSS Fairchild, where he met Mr. Albanese's mother, Maryann, shown seated, right, with friends. A photo was taken of Mr. Albanese when he, his wife and child visited his father, Carlo, in 2009.

IAOVC Exec. Board Member Andre DiMino was interviewed on News 12 NJ about our opposition to changing Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day as well as the Mayor of Newark's disrespectful treatment of the moved Columbus statue - which was thrown, like garbage, into a municipal lot. Watch the clip at the following link:
The landscapes of Emilio Giuseppe Dossena were well known in the years in which he produced them, as they were captivating to their audiences on many levels. He painted a variety of contrasting landscapes — from the soft valleys of Umbria to the centenary trees of Lombardy, from the sea cliffs of Liguria to the Alpine huts of Piedmont, from the gypsy caravans to the circus troupe encampment. Through his paint strokes, we were able to view the world as it was through his eyes, realistically and without gimmicks, an appeal that has set him apart from other artists of his time. This partial monograph (both in English and Italian) offers the opportunity to explore a selection of his landscapes works (62 color images) throughout his extended artistic career, introducing them to new generations. In seeing his artwork and the essence of his artistic expression, the reason for his success is revealed.
Thank you, Primo Magazine!
