One of the best parts of moving to is getting to taste all the creative ways Ethiopian flavors are represented! Chef Elias of is a real trailblazer, taking American soul food and adding an Ethiopian kick! The DC area has the largest concentration of Ethiopians outside of Ethiopia, and this restaurant is such a cool reflection of the merging of cultures! It’s so unique to Washington, DC & absolutely delicious! Some of my recommendations are:
👉🏾The berbere fried chicken with a side doro mambo sauce 🔥
👉🏾All the sides- especially the doro wat mac and cheese! Doro wat is a special Ethiopian spicy chicken stew, and that stew + mac and cheese combo is a match made in heaven!
If you haven’t been yet, now is the time! Tag a foodie who needs to try this!

Starting 2026 with a flashback. I took this photo years ago at an amazing Senegambian restaurant in Las Vegas. It’s one of many times over the years that I’ve enjoyed a plate of the original jollof rice (thiepboudienne!). I’ve had Nigerian jollof in Nigeria and Ghanaian jollof in Ghana, but I’ve been wanting to so badly to visit Senegal and try thiepboudienne at the source. This year I’m finally making it happen, I’m ready to start 2026 in the motherland! I’m heading to Senegal tomorrow and I cant wait! 🎉🥳

I’m featured on 🥳 my second recipe video went up today for Himbasha! Himbasha is a special Ethiopian/Eritrean bread that I grew up eating. Anytime I have Himbasha, I think of my grandma. She made people feel loved through her cooking and would often make himbasha for people who just moved to Canada, for church, for neighbors, for anybody who needed it from weddings to baby baptisms. She taught me how to show people care through food. It meant a lot to me showcase my culture & her legacy in this recipe video. I would love for you to check it out on & my page.

You can’t have Injera & Chill without Injera!

We’re excited to have had Wassie, an inventor & entrepreneur who created an updated version of the mitad (griddle tool) used to make injera in the building! And now with Wass bakery he’s making 100% Teff Gluten free injera that you can find across the DMV at your local Ethiopian/Eritrean markets.
