Today is my birthday and I can’t believe I finally get to announce THIS SHOW. It is such an honor to co-produce this ‘one night only’ tribute to EVA CASSIDY with her friends & collaborators Cathy Fink and Marcy A. Marxer. And check out the artists involved 👀 including 3 members of Eva’s original band: Keith Grimes, Lenny Williams, and Raice McLeod (joined by Nicole Saphos on bass)! And *ahem* Rochelle Rice , Juliet Lloyd , Niav Maher, and DANTE’ POPE?! UNREAL.

I’ve been a huge fan of Eva Cassidy’s recordings since I first heard them as a teenager growing up in DC. Unfortunately, like most of her adoring fans worldwide, I never got to see her perform live. She passed away at the tragic young age of 33, less than a year after recording her iconic “Live At Blues Alley” album.

This concert will celebrate her incredible talent and legacy 30 years after her death and I’m so grateful to be putting it on at The Birchmere.

You’re really not going to want to miss this show. It’s going to be beyond special.

It’s funnnnnn to learn new things ⭐️
This morning I learned the guitar part for a song I have loved for decades. For some reason I’d convinced myself that it was “too hard” for me. Sure, the tuning is unique, and the strumming rhythm combined and lyrical rhythms are challenging (you can hear me sprinting to catch up with myself in that first verse lol), but I CAN DO HARD THINGS. I took one guitar lesson from Marcy A. Marxer this summer and it filled me with confidence and possibility. I’ve even taken my first GUITAR SOLO in front of PEOPLE. There is so much sexism in guitar and I’m embarrassed (but trying to give myself grace) that it’s taken me this long to believe in myself as someone who can get better at this instrument, and also that my playing is legit and valuable as it is!
Love yall. 😚 TGIF & I leave for a nourishing time at the beach on Monday. Sometimes my brain is way too loud.

My 2nd album came out 11 years ago?? 🤯 the band’s favorite song to play is V D A Y and we all wished we played it more often. Give it a stream today! What’s your fave song? I did a lot of the recording on this album myself in my bedroom and then recorded bass & drums and mixed in the studio with Jeff Berner. Featuring the very talented Spencer Zahn on bass and Ian Chang on drums.

One of the most special performance moments of my life. I was a founding member of Children’s Chorus of Washington in 1995, and this June I had the honor of performing my original song “Don’t Go Alone” with over 100 of their young singers for the CCW 30th anniversary concert at the beautiful Howard University Cramton Auditorium. This was my first time arranging a song for a children’s chorus and I’m so grateful to CCW’s artistic director Margaret Nomura Clark for giving me this opportunity and mentoring me along the way. I was moved to tears by these voices, and had to take a moment to soak it all in. Little 10yr old Sara would be SO excited to know we would grow up to do this ❤️ THANK YOU CCW! “Time After Time” cover - live at St. Columba's Episcopal Church Sunday June 21, 2026. I’ve been listening to Eva Cassidy since high school and am forever inspired by her singing, playing, and phrasing. This is my first time performing her arrangement of Cyndi Lauper ‘s Time After Time 🕰️ (featuring Ryan Walker, Ian Riggs and Brendan) Thanks to everyone who came to our courtyard concert this Sunday. We had the best time and had the best mild summer weather!!

WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED!!! 🌻 Back in the fall when we were about to play the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, I was nervous. But not nervous to take the stage. I was uneasy about walking in the building. It felt different. Darker. Heavier. It hadn’t yet been scheduled to close for construction, hadn’t been desecrated with his name on the building, but many people had already lost their jobs and the vibrations were low. I decided to arrange my song “Garden of Ghosts” to include “We Shall Not Be Moved” specially for this concert to honor the legacy of JFK and show my support for Kennedy Center United Arts Workers. Both songs are about resilience and have imagery of the strength of nature to prevail. It feels great to sing these songs, and I hope it charges your battery to listen. I’m choosing to post this today because I am PUMPED about the early results favoring JLG as our next mayor and Robert White for Congress as our next delegate to the US house of Representatives 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

I also want to formally thank Congresswoman Joyce Beatty for NOT BACKING DOWN and getting his name OFF of our beloved Kennedy Center!

REHEARSAL VIDEO 💫 I’m incredibly honored to be performing with this coming Sunday 6/7 for their 30th Anniversary Concert at Howard University’s Cramton Auditorium. It’s a literal dream to lead over 100 young singers in a song I wrote about the power of supporting each other.

Rehearsing with them yesterday made me emotional. I was a founding member of CCW back in 1995, made incredible friends, and got to sing incredible places (ie Carnegie Hall, The Vatican +). This is more than a full circle moment. It’s a full HEART moment.

There are some tickets left for Sunday’s concert, and if you want to be inspired by the incredible spirit and talent of DC’s young people - or to show your kids! - I suggest you get to googling 🎟️ 👀
