I can’t find the find the words but I won’t be silent. The exotic hypersexualization of Asian women contributes to the violence we face. Atlanta PD saying race isn’t a factor is both infuriating and upsetting. White supremacists get a pass every single time their actions aren’t held to account as a hate crime.

Racism hurts us as, now more than ever we need solidarity amongst our communities to fight the xenophobic hate virus.

It was an honour today to be featured as an endcap in the conversation about longstanding gender inequity in the art world with visionary women in the field: Aida Muluneh, Contemporary artist and photographer, Myrtis Bedolla, Founding Director, ‪Galerie Myrtis‬ and Chaédria LaBouvie, Curator, Acclaimed Basquiat Exhibition at the Guggenheim on The Stream

was my very first art curation endeavour. I was determined to take the spirit of recipes for resilience and feature as many women immigrant women artists in the show. I am proud to say that over 75% of the artists in the show are immigrant women. None of this would have happened without the unabashed encouragement from Amy Morse and all the artists who trusted their work with this novice. The show is on until March 26 at The Cheshire - go visit.

We curated an art show showcasing over 60 works of art by 12 women artists (75% of whom are immigrants). We launched our book of community nourishment, feat. recipes and profiling personal narratives and the social-political context of refugees and migrant women living in Washington DC. Love and gratitude to the 200 plus people who showed up to the Each for Equal opening reception on Saturday night to support the artists and the project. 💖🙏🏽
On Sunday, we hosted our community launch and had the women of set the mood for joyful rebellion with their Cumbia ballads. We hosted a panel on female immigrant experience featuring some powerhouse women - Dunin Tegegn, Human Rights Lawyer and Fellow at Amnesty International Megan Macaraeg, ED, Many Languages One Voice, and Shannon Lederer, Director of Immigration Policy at AFL-CIO. I am humbled that everyone who was involved graciously accepted to the invitation to participate and support this one-woman project. The art show is on until March 26, stay tuned for closing reception details, and the books can be ordered online on our website and details of bookstores carrying them will be available soon. 💛

Colochita is the abuela of the street vendors in D.C. She is from El Salvador and has been in the US for almost 30 years. For most all of that time, Colochita has sold food on the sidewalk in Mount Pleasant and Columbia Heights. If you’re lucky you might catch her Monday to Friday in these neighborhoods, and if you do make sure to order an atol de elote. Her recipe for Atol de elote is also in the published edition of our book. Come to our book launch (link in bio) or order your copy online.

Each for Equal artist spotlight: 👩🏻‍🎨

Hannah Chertock is a multimedia artist exploring concepts of pain, bodies and medical technology. Her inspiration is fueled by her experience with Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia, a bone condition that causes short stature, chronic pain, and other joint related issues. Her work strives to create a sense of awareness and appreciation of our bodies through the experience of art. She creates gorgeous glitter cutout body parts. Her process involves painstakingly cutting each layer of paper and layering them to create 3D effect. She’ll be showing 10 incredible pieces at the show. Meet Fahimeh; she was the very first person who expressed interest in contributing a recipe to this project. grew up in Qazvin, Iran, which is the calligraphy capital of Iran. She is a journalist and had to be smuggle out of Iran after the 2010 Presidential elections due to government suppression and crackdown. She made her way through Turkey, and the Czech Republic before finally arriving in the US. She carried memories of her home, along with the sound and aromas of the kitchens she used to love. In the book she shares her family's authentic recipe for the famous Iranian dish Gheymeh Nesar. Fahimeh is also one of the speakers on the Female Immigrant Experience Panel on March 8 🌹

Recipes for Resilience is a feminist project at the intersection of culture & cuisine, so naturally we wanted to curate an art show featuring a diverse group of women artists, specifically highlighting immigrant women artists. is one of the artists featured in our Each for Equal show running from March 7 - March 26. (Link in bio for opening night reception tickets).

Emon’s artist statement: As someone who was born and raised in Thailand, and then moved to the United States, I experienced first hand the disorienting effects of displacement. Leaving a culture that was organized and familiar, for one that was entirely new and foreign, I not only learned the ways in which an established order can be fractured, but also the means by which disorder can be harmonized.
