With some new followers among us, I thought I’d take a moment for an intro.
I‘m Erin Malick Thompson, a full-time artist working typically in ink, watercolor, pastel, pencil, and/or charcoal.
I live with my husband and two children (4th and 7th graders), and this summer marks 25 years since I moved to Capitol Hill (26th in DC)! I grew up in a suburb outside Philly, the middle of 3 sisters.
My passion is capturing what I call “everday moments” — candid, mundane times of togetherness between parents and their child(ren), between siblings, children with their pets, a child fully engaged in an activity, etc.
I also love to live-sketch passersby at Lincoln Park, fellow Metro riders, and coffee shop goers. I even sell prints with a collection of my sketches of dogs and their people in Lincoln Park, and another with sketches from Metro rides over the years — SWIPE to see!
I find it rewarding to help people give meaningful gifts, so I offer an array of prints, stationery, towels, ornaments, etc featuring my artwork of favorite spots and other things that inspire me around Capitol Hill (and a few places from beyond) — perfect to remind you of places you love, to adorn your own home or office, enliven your basement airbnb, give as a housewarming/hosting gesture, or share with a friend moving away.
For those who want to give an extra-special, personal gift, you can commission me to create bespoke art of the everyday moments in your family’s life. I typically work from your photographs, and I’m happy to look at a handful and weigh-in on which I think would work best! You can find slots on my website under “Custom Art.”
Outside of my art business, my favorite things to do include reading, playing board games with my family, going out to eat, savoring fresh brewed iced tea with a touch of sweet tea, cozying up with a glass of red wine, and petting/snuggling with our cat Wilbur.
Thank you for following me! I *try* to post daily, and from time to time, I’ll share timelapse footage and other views of my process. I’d love to hear from you about what content you especially enjoy and what you’d like to see (or see more of)!
