Many friends and colleagues joined Francisco Costa and Peter Koepke last week for the opening of PATTERN and FORM Monumental Pottery of the Upper Amazon. The scene was  Francisco’s recently launched pop-up Costa Brazil at Hudson Yards. 
Ivan Shaw of the World of Interiors moderated the conversation between Francisco and Peter that touched on their history in fashion, their shared devotion to the Amazon Rain Forest and esteem for its Peoples and Cultures.

The elegant and distinctive patterns drawn on Shipibo-Konibo pottery and textiles are unique cultural expressions.  But they have much in common with textile designs from Indian or Japanese artisans and those drawn in French or Italian studios during the past centuries.  All these works are created with shared visual language, nearly always in patterns, and intended to say something about the person using them.
