I know it’s not Halloween but it is Friday the 13th, so I thought y’all might enjoy my new song “Mary Black,” releasing today at 2:00 PM EST. https://youtu.be/Q2yBqkAPC6M?si=LvXihIe-4CmEQ6eZ

“Mary Black” is based on a real local legend from Chewton, Pennsylvania. I live about two miles from Mary Black’s grave, and one night a couple friends and I went to see it. As we were leaving, we thought we saw a casket along the side of the road. None of us were brave enough to turn around and find out, so we kept going. It was probably just an old couch, lol.

Sometimes the best stories for a song are right in our own backyard.

Hope you enjoy “Mary Black.”

I wanted to share something that honestly means a lot to me.

“My Hometown,” the song I wrote about Wampum, Pennsylvania, just went over 3,000 plays. As of 3:00 pm today (3/3/2026), it’s sitting at 3,027 plays. That’s 3,027 times someone pressed play since I released it on 1/18/2026.

For a song about a one-square-mile town with a big heart, that’s pretty special to me.

If you’ve listened, shared it, or told someone about it, thank you. Every single play means someone connected with a piece of my story.

You can hear “My Hometown,” along with my second biggest song “My Heartbeat’s Still” and my third, “Old John Matus,” on my album Cracked Screen, Open Roads.

Cracked Screen, Open Roads – By GXL (GeneratorXL)
1. My Hometown – About my hometown of Wampum, PA.
2. Hold On Tight – Me and my brother sneaking my dad’s Datsun pickup out of the driveway after everyone went to bed.
3. Old John Matus – Working for the man who owned the service station up the road in the summer of 1980.
4. Scrollin – What we all do every day… scrolling through life on a cracked cellphone screen.
5. One Mile Wide – Wampum again, exactly one square mile long and wide, just like so many small towns across this country.
6. Every Mile East – My years as a truck driver, running every Atlantic Ocean state and always trying to find the road back home.
7. My Heartbeat’s Still – About the love of my life… you know who you are.
8. Big Blue – My son growing up beside his grandfather who drove a Big Blue Kenworth.
9. Eyes Wide Shut – The bad fevers and nightmares I had as a kid, and sometimes still do.
10. Echoes Of The Prism – My dedication to Pink Floyd.
11. Granny’s House – Driving to Patriot, Ohio to stay at my granny’s house for the summer.
12. 1970s – A mashup using commercials from the 1970s.
13. Yesterday – When I first started writing in the ’70s and the friends I’ve lost along the way.
14. Wampum Roads – About the old Medusa Cement plant and the people who helped build the roads and buildings in this country.
15. Worn Out Hearts – My grandfather taking care of my grandmother until she passed at 62 in 1997, and my brother taking care of him in that same house until he passed in May 2023 at 96, almost in the very same spot.
16. 1996 – My fight with drug addiction from 1996 until I quit everything in 2020.
17. Sinners – Me and four friends heading to a bar in Ohio and getting into a fight where we were outnumbered four to one… maybe more.

Every song on this album is a piece of my life. Some are proud moments. Some are hard chapters. All of them are real.

Thank you for taking the time to listen and for helping “My Hometown” cross 3,000 plays. It may be a small town, but it raised a lot of stories. https://youtu.be/62wOAdTHBNU?si=VatmeVNW6ZjqwzOz

I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who reached out to help Jeff & Nancy after their trailer burned down. What started as a simple post turned into something truly overwhelming. The video received over 45,000 views, and with it came an outpouring of kindness, prayers, messages, donations, and support from people everywhere.

In a time when they were facing such a devastating loss, you all stepped up. You showed compassion. You showed generosity. You showed that community still matters.

Jeff & Nancy are incredibly grateful for every single person who offered help in any way. Whether you shared the post, sent a message, donated, or kept them in your prayers, it meant more than you know.

They truly do appreciate each and every one of you. 💛
