In partnership with the City of Oakley, Local Edition Creative is excited to announce that Oakley, CA is launching its first public art program. The two-year pilot program will begin with procuring four temporary sculptures, medium in size, for display around the City’s Main St., as well as procuring art for the City Hall lobby.

A Call For Artists has been launched, with submissions due by October 25 by 5:00pm PT.

The call for sculptures is open to individual artists and artist teams from California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington with existing sculptures suitable for outdoor display. Sculptures selected will be slated for a one-year exhibition beginning in Spring 2027.

The call for City Hall artwork is open to individual artists and artist teams from East Contra Costa County, with preference for artists located in the Delta. City Hall artworks may be new or existing works and should be ready for installation in Winter 2026/2027.

Artist fee: up to $5,000
Deadline: October 25, 2026 by 5:00pm PT

1 of 2 projects for City Ventures at their Cherry Blossom Row homes the Monk by Martin Taylor. For the second installation, we knew Sean Orlando would be the right artist/fabricator for cherry blossom trees as he has his shop right down the road from this site and a favorite of the City of Richmond’s public art department

🔂• Martin Taylor “The Monk” is installed at his new home in Richmond California across from the Tibetan Association. The famous yellow hat that Buddhist monks wear represents the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. The Gelug school was founded by Tsongkhapa in the 15th century. It emphasizes strict monastic discipline and Buddhist study. ☸️ Thank you to Local Edition Creative for this placement 🙏🏻

Diego Harris draws inspiration directly from natural patterns, particularly spirals and organic structures found in plants, water, and wind.

Born in Baja California (AKA Mexico) and now based in Upper Lake, California, Harris has been working as a professional artist since 2007. With experience across a wide range of materials, including recycled metals and mixed media.

This procurement for the City of Vacaville is placed in Andrews Park, above a creek and with trees all around, it’s a fitting scene for “Aurora”. Diego’s sculpture was most recently on display at Oxbow Market in Napa, before landing in Vacaville as a permanent public art piece

First Dockside Dazzle event in the books and a success! 3 hours and about 300 people came out to watch our artists paint custom wh**ky barrels, and see Farmer The Rigger unveiled by Zulu Heru.

Talking Heads installed today!

Talking Heads by Oleg Lobykin is an 18-ft high abstract sculpture, a spatial composition based on a balance between negative and positive space in conjunction with a line that can create an image or point of reference to spark imagination.  The sculpture’s form explores the principles of positive and negative space, void and substance. By interacting with their reflections in its mirrored-polished finish, viewers are invited to interpret the artwork’s meaning from their own unique perspectives.

Talking Heads will be on display for one year.

About the artist:
Oleg Lobykin (Russian, b. 1966) is a sculptor. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, Lobykin now resides in Silicon Valley and also specializes in the restoration of landmark architecture and sculpture. He is a sculptor interested in conceptual art and likes to use modern tools and technology as an opportunity to reach new heights.

Illumination; light and shadow give public art installations life at night so it’s not just something to enjoy in the daytime, it’s a 24/7 experience
“Where the Fountain Dreams” By Paz de la Calzada (1st image) and “Touch the Sky” by Martin Taylor (2nd image & photo by Cheryl L. Guerrero) are excellent examples of this

6th year of the Mare Island Artyard ~ where has the time gone?
Local Edition envisioned this project and its importance, thank goodness also saw the vision and backed it. Thus a great partnership began to bring public art to Mare Island, one of the most intriguing places to visit in the Bay Area.
Come check out the art, the history of the oldest Naval Shipyard on the West Coast, and where industrial collides with the natural world.
Thank you to the artists and their teams, our team, and the strong support from our many friends in the community.
In addition to the Artyard, we’ve created 3 significant murals and many other visual art pieces, many by Vallejo and Solano County artists.
