🚨CALLING ALL ROLLER FRIENDS⚠️
💥Let’s get some 🛑STOP signs
& crosswalks🚶♂️on Tidewater Drive!!
👉 Repost 👉
The inevitable happened today,
a child was hit by a car trying
to cross Tidewater Drive this afternoon. The driver continued on. 😡
Luckily this child was not seriously injured.
This could have been prevented.
Tidewater Drive separates one of Norfolk’s largest parks, from a residential neighborhood with no safe way for pedestrians to cross. This is a design flaw of poor traffic engineering. The speed limit is 40 MPH, but I seldom see cars traveling that speed. (I happen to own Siren Skate Shop and watch traffic daily.) In three years here, I’ve seen no traffic enforcement.
I have pointed out the lack of crosswalks to city council members, state delegates and senators with no corrective action taken. but with this traffic design, a more serious collision is inevitable.
If crosswalks were added at the corner of Norman St. this would give pedestrians a safe way to cross Tidewater Dr. This intersection also has a Hampton Roads Transit bus stop on the southbound side of Tidewater Dr. with no safe way to gain access to it.
And for the crosswalk at Marvin St., a pedestrian light that stops traffic is also needed. This would provide a safe passage for pedestrians to access Northside Park.
⚠️🚨Please help support making it safe for people to safely cross Tidewater Dr. and gain access to our beautiful park that has so much to offer.⚠️🚨
