Impact Kids

Impact Kids A summer literacy and arts program through First UMC and partnering organizations. Two week program July 25-28, Aug 1-4, 2016 for kids entering 3rd gr.

The primary emphasis of !mpact Kids summer program is furthering academic success, particularly in literacy and reading proficiency, for children entering 3rd grade. Needed resources are provided, as well as pairing each child with a reading mentor/volunteer for daily one-on-one reading sessions. Certified educators will work with the program to assess each child’s reading level and start them on

a course to improve in each level. Arts are Important Too
There is more to learning than reading. !mpact Kids students will attend life enrichment classes including:
Art and Art Appreciation
Movement/dance
Music and Music Appreciation, and more. This offers participants classes that they might not have the opportunity to take otherwise. Also activities are focused on helping the children to grow personally and academically. Why this Program? Many children in rural towns face serious challenges, including poverty and low educational attainment. This program is designed to provide those children with tools necessary to break the poverty cycle by encouraging academic success early. We are particularly looking at those children entering third grade who need help to succeed with the reading proficiency test they will take in 3rd grade. We will reach out to children/families in the community living at and below poverty level, a demographic we have not previously reached. Beginning Summer 2016
