Sarah Houglum is a contemporary watercolor artist inspired by life along the coasts of California, Maui, Hawaii, and Florida. Working primarily in watercolor, she uses vibrant color and expressive brushwork to capture the joy, freedom, and connection she finds by the sea.

While living on Maui, Sarah created her Paddle Out for Lahaina series following the devastating 2023 fires. Inspired by the strength of the community and the paddle out honoring those lost, the series expresses remembrance, healing, and hope.

Now living in Vero Beach, Florida, Sarah continues to explore the ocean as a place of beauty and community, creating colorful paintings of beaches, surfers, boats, and coastal life.

Sarah has worked in many artistic mediums, including murals, jewelry, and commissioned paintings. Her work is available through select galleries, exhibitions, art fairs, and Sarah Eden Designs

Joanne Johnson, Artist, Vero Beach, FL
A career with the U. S. Department of Agriculture, spent outdoors inspecting citrus groves, Christmas tree farms, nurseries, lumberyards, and ships, heightened my love of the great outdoors. I discovered my love for painting in 2013 after I volunteered to paint an underwater ocean mural in a West Virginia elementary school’s 90-foot-long hallway. Many students had never seen the ocean, but now dream of becoming marine biologists and oceanographers. We planned to retire on 20 acres in West Virginia until we visited Florida. We fell in love with Florida and the Vero Beach area - the unique palette of varied flora and fauna, the beautiful ocean and sea life, the amazing skies . . . . Since retiring, I now have the time to express that love and my appreciation of our life in Florida through my painting.

The Bardot Gallery and LoPresti Art Gallery participated in Spark the Night, World Parkinson’s Day.

In addition, several other businesses: Ameriprise Financial, Hummingbird Homehealth, The VB Art Club, & The Center for Memory and Movement.

Many homes were lit up too.

Thanks to all who participated. Next year we look forward to even more awareness.
