Columbia Dance is dedicated to offering excellence in classical ballet training and a variety of other dance forms. Each season, we present a full length Nutcracker, which has become a seasonal tradition in our community. Spring brings our annual Choreographer’s Showcase, designed to encourage young, pre-professional choreographers. And finally, we present our annual production, Columbia Dance Spr

ing Showcase, an eclectic repertory concert featuring the students of Columbia Dance, guest choreographers and works by our faculty. Company Alumni have found careers in professional dance companies and careers as teachers, lawyers, doctors and leaders in the community. Our Alumni have danced professionally with Attack Theatre, BodyVox, Éowyn Emerald & Dancers, Georgia Ballet, Idaho Dance Theatre, Young Americans Japan Tour and Midwest US Tour, The Juilliard Dance Ensemble, Nashville Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theatre, Nevada Ballet Theatre, North Atlanta Dance Theatre, Northwest Dance Project, Nguyen Dance Company, The Pillow Project, and Rasta Thomas’ Bad Boys of Dance.

Today, Friday, January 19th we will be holding 1 optional class at Columbia Dance. We say optional because we know that many residential streets are still frozen over and unsafe to drive on. We ask that students only attend if their families feel it is safe for them to get to the studios and back home again.
The street outside the studio is nicely paved, but parking is still a bit slick.

All Level 2 - Company students are welcome to join us today from 4:45-6:45pm for 1 big class with Becky. Level 6 dancers are then welcome to stay to work on their choreography until 7:30.

Our dedicated student choreographers are giving it their all! Despite the winter storm’s setback, they are committed to meeting Saturday’s deadline for The Ballet Alliance. They elected to spend valuable snow day hours prepping to make the most out of Saturday’s rehearsal and even held Zoom rehearsals last night. Fingers crossed for their work to grace the stage at the Spokane festival in May! 🩰

🎄PART 7🎄

Dr. McLoughlin has some tricks up his sleeve, or rather, his hat. First it’s apple after apple 🍎

FUN FACT: Dr. McLoughlin is credited with planting the very first apple tree in the PNW. The story goes that at a party in London a lady put the seeds of her dessert apple into Emilius Simpson’s waistcoat, telling him to plant them in the new world. When he arrived in Vancouver in 1826 he found the seeds in his pocket while dining with Dr. John McLoughlin. The two then planted the seeds indoors. McLoughlin later planted the trees outside where one lived for nearly 200 years, succumbing to mortality in 2020. Cuttings of the tree have been transplanted, so its offspring continue to grow in our town 🌳

🎄PART 5🎄
A new guest arrives! It’s Dr. McLoughlin. He is very fashionable in his beaver pelt hat. Why does he refuse to take it off when the Steward offers to hang it up for him? Very curious! He greets the Douglas family.
